The group was formed in the 1990s in Boston, Massachusetts by Viola and drummer Todd Foulsham, with other performers. Viola and Foulsham moved to New York City and the pair began appearing as a stripped-down acoustic duo. Viola has since kept the band name alive with various lineups and recording projects. Foulsham left the group in the mid-90s when the band's future was uncertain, but returned to perform on 2004's Hang On Mike. The pair have also begun playing as an acoustic duo again in the mid-2000s.
You Belong To Me Now
Candy Butchers Lyrics

Sanding down the edges
With your nervous laughter
And your innocence
Suddenly your spirit has shifted
This you cannot measure
It's the same old fear
That brings us together
You've been on the wrong side
They can't come between us
Anyhow, you belong to me
Another big idea
Drives me to distraction
I always end up feeling
So insignificant
Suddenly my spirit has shifted
This I cannot measure
With the same old fear
That keeps us together
You belong to me now
You've been on the wrong side
They can't come between us
Anyhow, you belong to me
The lyrics of the song "You Belong To Me Now" by Candy Butchers convey the shifting thoughts and emotions of two people who have now come together. The first two lines of the song, "I can almost see your mind working/Sanding down the edges" imply that the person is worried about their personality traits and is constantly trying to improve themselves. The nervous laughter and innocence of the person adds to their vulnerability.
As the lyrics continue, it is evident that both individuals have come together due to some underlying fear. The phrase "It's the same old fear/That brings us together" highlights that they have found common ground in their fears. The phrase "Another big idea/Drives me to distraction" could be interpreted as a sudden realization of the importance of the other person in their life. They feel that they were insignificant before and are now willing to accept the other's presence in their life.
The repeated phrase "You belong to me now" signifies the possessiveness of the singer and how they feel that the other person is now a part of them. The phrase "They can't come between us/Anyhow, you belong to me" further reinforces this possessiveness and disregards any external interference. Overall, the song depicts the emotions that come with a new relationship and how individuals try to accept each other with their insecurities, fears, and flaws.
