Capstan Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You were always his but forever mine
You left me like an addict craving one more high
The dose that brought peaks to my flatline
The dose that brought peaks to my flatline
So perfectly chemically designed
Southern comfort with midwestern eyes
It's hard to feel your burn when I'm numb inside
You entered my life like a WILDFIRE
Ignited by desire
So captivated
I didn't feel the air in my lungs expire
Beautiful but violent
Outspoken yet silent
You are the chaos in any environment
So terribly chemically maligned
Our faults intertwined
And you left the worst of you behind...
You know you're in my blood and I can't take it back
So I'll just make the most, grow and live with it
Go and change what's next, 'cause I can't with our past
In fact I'll make them well, what parts of you I AM
You know it's in my blood...
And I can't take it back...
WHAT PARTS OF YOU I AM, WHAT PARTS OF YOU I AM
What parts of you I-
The lyrics to Capstan's song Indelible speak about a tumultuous relationship that has left a lasting impact on the singer’s life. The first stanza refers to the pieces of the relationship coming together but at separate times, indicating a disjointed connection. The singer also mentions that the person they were involved with belonged to someone else but always had a lingering presence in their life. The pain of their separation is described as being akin to withdrawal from a drug they can't seem to quit. The line "The dose that brought peaks to my flatline" is a metaphor for how this person brought excitement and highs to the singer's otherwise uneventful life.
The second stanza describes the person the singer was involved with as being dangerous and toxic, using the metaphor of cyanide. Though they were attractive and captivating, they ultimately caused harm. The line "It's hard to feel your burn when I'm numb inside" suggests that the singer has become desensitized to the pain caused by this person's actions. The chorus then begins, describing the person's entrance into the singer's life as a wildfire, destructive and intense. They were captivated by this person, but didn't have any self-awareness until it was too late. The bridge of the song speaks to how the singer is left with a permanent impact from the relationship, describing the other person as being in their blood. While they can't change the past, they vow to learn from it and make something better out of it.

Might be my favorite on the album. Or I'll bury the hatchet. Or fix. Or terminal.
Fuck idk, the love that remains is amazing too.
@chosentonessournotes
The whole album is a banger dude. I just can’t deny it. It’s officially one of the few albums I can listen to from start to finish without wanting to skip a song or two. Fantastic album.

Man, this might be one of the best post hardcore songs I've heard.
Amazing balance of so many different elements, and somehow managed to hook a saxophone pre verse in without it sounding like a cat vomiting in the corner.
Great record guys!
