Home Again
Carol King Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sometimes I wonder if I'm
Ever gonna make it home again.
It's so far and out of sight.
I really need someone to talk to
And nobody else
Knows how to comfort me tonight.

Snow is cold; Rain is wet.
Chills my soul right to the marrow.

I won't be happy 'til I see
You alone again.
'Til I'm home again and feelin' right.

Snow is cold; Rain is wet.
Chills my soul right to the marrow.

I won't be happy 'til I see
You alone again.
'Til I'm home again and feelin' right.

'Til I'm home again and feelin' right.
I wanna be home again and feelin' right.

I own a copy of her Tapestry album and the lyrics of the songs are on the backside. That is why I have memorized the lyrics of all her songs. I still play the long playing vinyl record up to this time. More than 50 years old; a treasure indeed.

We had the LP at home here in Uganda, I was about 6 years old, I learned all the lyrics. This was my favorite!

This album is how I survived high school in the 1970s. It is one of the few albums that I STILL love every single song on after close to 50 years. I've owned it on vinyl, 8-track, cassette, CD, and now on Apple Music. There are three or four albums I simply will not be without, and Tapestry is second on the list. (You can guess from my avatar what the first one is. 😁)

Ah, Carole King. What can I say that millions of fans around the world haven't already said. She is a true treasure. No one and I mean no one, can infuse lyrics with emotion the way she can. Her uncanny voice cuts right to the heart, taking no prisoners. Literally "chills my soul right to the marrow."

Starshine Dragon Song

'Snow is cold, rain is wet
chills my soul right to the marrow."
Amazing lyrics

It's the next lines that get me. I live in Vegas, but my heart lives 2,000 miles away. "I won't be happy . . . 'til I'm home again and feelin' right." No, I won't. But I'll be retiring in a few years, and unlike most people, I plan to retire AWAY from Vegas and back to the Midwest. No, it's not as fancy, and I'll have to deal with winter again. But I'll BE HOME again and feelin' right. I wanna be home again and feelin' right.

There are lines from the Aeneid from Virgil that are almost the same. Always wonder if she took them from that epic. The words were something along the lines of. "The snow will be cold, and the rain wet. It will chill your soul to the marrow."
