King's major success began in the 1960s when she and her first husband, Gerry Goffin, wrote more than two dozen chart hits, many of which have become standards, for numerous artists. She has continued writing for other artists since then. King's success as a performer in her own right did not come until the 1970s, when she sang her own songs, accompanying herself on the piano, in a series of albums and concerts. After experiencing commercial disappointment with her debut album Writer, King scored her breakthrough with the album Tapestry, which topped the U.S. album chart for 15 weeks in 1971 and remained on the charts for more than six years.
King has made 25 solo albums, the most successful being Tapestry, which held the record for most weeks at No. 1 by a female artist for more than 20 years. Her record sales were estimated at more than 75 million copies worldwide. She has won four Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. She has been inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a performer and songwriter. She is the recipient of the 2013 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, the first woman to be so honored. She is also a 2015 Kennedy Center Honoree.

Down on the beach Feliz Navidad is playing
And ohhh, I oughtta miss the Christmas as I always knew
But here I am in paradise with you, just me and you, wishes come true
No crackling fire or chestnuts roasting,
But we got some coconuts and rum for toasting
Don't need a snowman we'll build castles in the sand
You and me underneath a beach umbrella, we don't need no mistletoe at all
No need to hurry we don't have to worry there's no where else to be
But the starry sky and the Christmas lights when the sun sets on the sea
Aqui en el paraiso
I'm in a Christmas paradise
You and me in Christmas paradise
Dime que si, on the beach it's very nice
You and me in Christmas paradise
Aqui en el paraiso
I'm in Christmas paradise with you
You and me in Christmas paradise
Dime que si, on the beach it's very nice
You and me in Christmas paradise
Aqui en el paraiso
It's Christmas time and I'm in paradise
We won't miss the snow at all
'Cause I'm with you in Christmas paradise
The lyrics to Carole King's (Holiday) song Christmas Paradise paints a picture of a non-traditional Christmas experience - one that takes place on a beach in a tropical paradise. The song talks about snow cones melting in the sun, palm trees swaying, and the popular Spanish Christmas song Feliz Navidad playing. It highlights the contrast between the typical Christmas experience, with its fireside crackling, chestnuts roasting, and snowmen building, versus the beauty of spending the holidays with loved ones in a place like paradise. The song speaks of building castles in the sand instead of snowmen, toasting with rum and coconuts instead of hot cocoa, and gazing up at the starry sky and Christmas lights when the sun sets on the sea.
The song seems to be about finding joy in the unconventional - something that can be appreciated by anyone who has spent a holiday away from the familiar comforts of home. It speaks to the idea that what makes a holiday special is the people you spend it with, and the joy you find in each other's company, rather than the location or traditions. The lyrics are an ode to the beauty of simplicity, and the happiness you can experience when you appreciate the moment, rather than stressing about perfection.
