Innocent

Let go all of your pieces
You’re divided but still, you are not broken
And that pile of stones
Don’t take them with you sleeping
Let them fall like stars into the ocean
Of dreams and dream yourself innocent
That keeps love away from the sun
All the trees on the hill look like they’re dying
You might thing life is gone
Might try and cut them all down
Burn them just to stay warm for one more winter
Of dreams but dream yourself innocent
The long shadows fight
Everyone is looking for a little light deep in the night
Dream and dream yourself innocent
In Catie Curtis's song "Innocent," the artist explores the theme of letting go of past pains and emotional burdens. The opening lyrics urge the listener to put away their letters and let go of their pieces, symbolizing the need to let go of past hurt and brokenness. The line "You're divided but still, you are not broken" highlights the resilience of the human spirit, reminding us that even though life may bring us difficulties that break us apart, we can still find a way to put ourselves back together.
The next verse talks about the difficulty of facing the "wall" of winter, where love seems to be kept away from the sun. The imagery of the dying trees on the hill paints a picture of despair and hopelessness. Despite this, the artist reminds us that cutting down and burning the trees is not a solution to the pain, but rather we should hold onto our dreams and find solace in them to restore our innocence.
The final lines of the song emphasize the importance of dreaming and holding onto hope. The long shadows represent the darkness we all face, but by searching for a little light, we can find a way to dream ourselves innocent once again.
