Cero Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Cero's song (Macbeth) convey a sense of departure and a longing to escape the real world. The first verse expresses regret about having to say goodbye, but the singer is already so tired that he cannot stay awake anymore. The second verse sets up the idea of a different world, one that the singer will be separated from by tomorrow. The imagery in these lines is bleak, with a silver light that grows distant and the sound of a heater that seems to be the only source of noise. The children who appear in the third verse have a fever, and their dreams are portrayed as better than the singer's own life. The chorus builds on this, with the image of a red forehead indicating that someone has been working hard, and the desire to dance until the night fades away.

The final verse of the song shifts slightly in tone, with the idea of drawing in blood and the comparison of the singer's breath to smoke. The silver light and the sound of the heater are still there, but the tone is darker. The ending line, "ah, Macbeth," seems to tie together the different threads of the song - the fear of sleep and the desire to escape reality, the bleakness of the world outside, and the sense of longing for something else.
