Chapter 14 was formed in 2003 by Chad Ackerman (Destroy The Runner, Die Trying, As I Lay Dying, and Austrian Death Machine). Other members in the band were Tanner Sparks on guitar (Destroy The Runner), Mike Catalano on drums (Chiodos and Destroy The Runner), Noah Slifka on guitar (In Fear & Faith), and Eddie Hudson on bass (Paper Mache).
The band never released an album, but did two U.S. tours on their own. They also recorded several demos without a label or financial backing. In 2007, after trying for so long to make a full length album and to score a record deal, the band split up.
Chad Ackerman and Tanner Sparks then went on to join Destroy The Runner (Solid State Records). Mike Catalano started teaching for Jordan Mancino (As I Lay Dying) and later went on to drum for the bands Chiodos and Destroy The Runner. Noah Slifka became In Fear & Faith's (Rise Records) lead guitarist. Eddie Hudson moved on to play bass for the band Paper Mache. In 2010, Destroy The Runner went on an indefinite hiatus. Chad and Tanner decided to start up Chapter 14 again. As of then, they are the only permanent members of Chapter 14. Both Chad and Tanner recorded and asked the original Chapter 14 line up to help with this process. On November 30, 2010 they released an EP called 'Like Trees In November'. And later on 'The Bad Shephard' as a single. As of September 2022, both their EP and demos are on Spotify for the world to listen to.

Acts Aside From Action
Chapter 14 Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Close to me
So close to me tight
Oh so close, close to me tight
Close by my side
So close to me tight
All the things you said were lies
Stay close, close to me tight
Even though I know that this ain’t right
So close to me tight
Oh so close, close to me tight
Close by my side
Close to me tight
All those things you said were lies
All those things we were, were lies
Get it wrong, get it right, get it wrong one time
Get it wrong, get it right
Get it wrong, get it right, get it wrong one time
Get it wrong, get it right
And you won’t say that I’m not listening
When you see the things I do, when you see the things I
No, you won’t say that I’m not listening
When you see the things I do, when you see the things I
Go on and lie, c’mon and try, don’t deny you’re wasting time
Go on and lie, c’mon and try, don’t deny
They try to feel love by touching
They try, but they won’t
Get it wrong, get it right, get it wrong one time
Get it wrong, get it right
Get it wrong, get it right, get it wrong one time
Get it wrong, get it right
And you won’t say that I’m not listening
When you see the things I do, when you see the things I
No, you won’t say that I’m not listening
When you see the things I do, when you see the things I
You won’t say when I’m not touching you
This, this isn’t real, this is what fools call love
This, this isn’t real, this is what I call love.
The song 'Acts Aside From Action' by Chapter 14 is about a person who knows that the relationship they are in is not right, but they still want their partner to stay close to them. The lyrics convey the story of a person who is aware of the lies their partner has told them, but they still want them to be near because they're afraid of being alone. The lines, "All the things you said were lies / And all the things we were, were lies" show the singer's acknowledgment of the falsehood in their relationship. However, they still crave the physical closeness and intimacy that comes with it.
Furthermore, the lyrics also suggest the singer's confusion about their relationship status. They mention how the partner won't say that they're not listening when they see the things the singer does, indicating that they are unsure if their partner understands them or not. The lines, "They try to feel love by touching / They try, but they won’t" show the singer's awareness that physical touch does not equate to love. However, despite their doubts and knowing that their relationship is not real, they still can't help wanting the physical intimacy.
Overall, the song is about the struggle of wanting someone close to you despite knowing that the relationship is not healthy. The lyrics highlight the confusion, mixed emotions, and desire for physical affection that come with such a situation.
