She stated: "It's another super important song to me because I made this song with Ariel Rechtshaid, who is somebody I've collaborated with since I was seventeen. He was a vital part of my album 'True Romance', and it was really special to go back to the studio with him and make this song "Lightning", which I feel like could've been a part of True Romance. It really embodies that 80's emotional spirit and drama, which was really inspiring me for this record".
