He started his career with the seminal NZ band Supergroove. Shortly after he broke from the band in 1996, he released his first single βChainsβ a duet with DLT that went straight to #1 on the NZ Singles charts, and stayed there for 5 consecutive weeks. It went on to reach Platinum and was the landmark single that brought NZ Hip Hop to mass attention.
Che Fu has released three solo albums and one greatest hits compilation: 2b S.PACiFiC, Navigator, and Beneath The Radar and Hi-Score: The Best of Che-Fu.
Navigator is a combination of 13 tracks developed musically and lyrically by Che Fu. His love of reggae, funk, soul, rap and hip hop were his inspiration. "Fade Away" and "Random" were the first two singles released off the album, and both did well in the New Zealand charts. His album also sees him collaborate with D.J P-Money and The Villajah M.Cs.

Hoodies
Che Fu Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Banner on my head, guess who i should meet
Soldiers by the tonne, lining up outside
I couldn't get in but tonight ill let it slide
Hoodies up laces low, time to split the scene
Knapsack on sneakers roll, pure street
Hoodies up laces low, time to split the scene
Phase them all out, slip my phones on me
Lose myself in rhyme, i'm surfin over beats
See them look at me, the corner of my eye
I couldn't let them in, but tonight ill let it slide
Hoodies up laces low, time to split the scene
Knapsack on sneakers roll, pure street
Hoodies up laces low, time to split the scene
Knapsack on sneakers roll, pure street
Origin information slips through the
fingers of lucifa
Retain forgotten words it's time to
Heal the natural feel
If left to fester force feed break
Beats natural elixir
Handed down from Mic to Mic to pacific seas
Where I give my lecture
Who brought the sample no apple for the
Teacher just kick and snare
I promote all (vocal scratch) on all sides
In to flare
Check out the crab to many in a barrel who
Perpetrate in hip hop apparel
Ya lyrics are mail order, when it arrived it
Said just to add water
No need to battle silly tricks for rabbits
Blinded by the head lights
(whoop, whoop)me run you over, turn your little
Blaze into a smoulder
(Oh me, Oh my) Why do you try big brother to woo
My crew
We decipher all subliminal lyrics so trivial
in the pursuit
Of happiness minus the variable
Rechannel the inner soul and put it down
On scroll
Hoodies up laces low, time to split the scene
Knapsack on sneakers roll, pure street
Hoodies up laces low, time to split the scene
Knapsack on sneakers roll, pure street
Hoodies up laces low, time to split the scene
Knapsack on sneakers roll, pure street
Hoodies up laces low, time to split the scene
Knapsack on sneakers roll, pure street
In Che Fu's song Hoodies, he is describing a night out on the town where he is feeling himself and his style. He cruises down the street and notices a crowd gathered outside a venue. Che has a banner on his head, and he knows he will meet someone important tonight. Soldiers are lining up outside, but Che couldn't get in before, but tonight, he will let it slide. He then mentions his hood, laces low, and sneakers as they become his "pure street" look for the night, formalizing his style. He continues to describe his experience, losing himself in rhyme and surfing over beats, while attracting the looks of others around him. Che also brings in some philosophical ideas with his lyrics, mentioning the inner soul, and the pursuit of happiness with minus variable.
Hoodies is an empowering song that describes the essence of streetwear and culture. Che is encouraging individuals to find their unique style and embrace it. The idea of hoodies up and laces low is not only about the fashion statement but also indicates the feeling of anonymity and invincibility. The song also highlights the struggle of Pacific Islanders in the music industry and how they retake control and bring a fresh perspective, all while maintaining their cultural roots. It is a message of unity, looking out for one another, and promoting positivity in whatever you do.
