In 2008, after five solo album releases, and nine with Passion, Tomlin made the move from Texas to Atlanta to be a worship leader for Giglio’s new church, Passion City Church, with its first service being held in February of 2009. Tomlin has since released four solo worship albums, two Christmas albums, and one live album.
In 2013, Tomlin’s seventh album Burning Light debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart, becoming only the fourth album by a Christian artist to top that chart, along with Butterfly Kisses (Shades of Grace) by Bob Carlisle, You Light Up My Life by LeeAnn Rimes, both in 1997, and TobyMac's Eye On It in 2012.
Tomlin has recorded some of the most famous songs ever in Christian music, such as How Great Is Our God, Holy Is The Lord, Our God, and Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies)
Throughout his successful career, Tomlin has won 22 GMA Dove Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, and a Grammy.

The Cross the Crown / No Love Greater
Chris Tomlin Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
For nothing less than love
Our Judge became our Savior
To make a way for us
The cross the crown
The blood falling down
The love that cost
All we could pay
Who can stand as righteous
A sinner saved by grace
The wrath of God was crucified
When Jesus took our place
The cross the crown
The blood falling down
The love that cost
A price greater than
All we could pay
In Chris Tomlin's song "The Cross the Crown/No Love Greater," the artist depicts God's ultimate expression of love for humanity in sending his son Jesus Christ to die on the cross. Tomlin affirms that God, who created human beings in his likeness and image, did not hesitate to pay the ultimate price for the redemption of humanity. The song describes Jesus as the judge who became our savior by dying on the cross, thereby paving the way for humanity's reconciliation with God.
The song further highlights the gravity of the sacrifice that Jesus made by depicting his death and the shedding of his blood as the ultimate expression of love. Thus, Tomlin's message is clear: the love that Christ exhibited through his death on the cross is unparalleled and beyond human comprehension. The chorus of the song, which repeated the lines "The cross the crown, the blood falling down, the love that cost, a price greater than all we could pay," emphasizes the centrality of the cross to Christian belief.
Furthermore, the song acknowledges the human inadequacy in the face of such a profound expression of love. Tomlin recognizes that no one can stand as righteous except by grace and is therefore entirely reliant on God's mercy and forgiveness. Hence, the song emphasizes the role of the cross as a path to atonement and salvation, expressing the idea that Jesus took the place of sinners by bearing the wrath of God on the cross.
