No cell in my pockets to drag me down
We hold our trust so fragile in our hands
Keeping it, I need you here tomorrow
I’m showing you the inner parts of me
Little shapes and pieces of glass
Different reflections in your light
Like the oxygen I breathe in
Like the ice I see through
Like the fingertips I feel with
You’re a natural part of me
The thought puts you off balance
From time to time
Forcing you to look down at the ground
But I’m landing softly on my feet
Don’t you know? I need you here tomorrow
Like the oxygen I breathe in
Like the ice I see through
Like the fingertips I feel with
You’re a natural part of me
In "I Need You Here Tomorrow" by Christel Alsos, the lyrics express a profound longing for the presence and support of someone in the singer's life. The opening lines, "Floating over seas, my body’s weightless // No cell in my pockets to drag me down," suggest a sense of freedom and lightness, almost as if the singer is disconnected from the responsibilities and burdens of daily life. However, despite this liberation, there is a vulnerability present, as signified by the mention of trust held "fragile in our hands." This establishes the central theme of dependence on the other person.
Continuing with the lyrics, the singer invites the listener to explore the depths of their being, unveiling their innermost thoughts and emotions. The metaphor of "little shapes and pieces of glass" and "different reflections in your light" suggests that the listener's perception and understanding contribute to the singer's sense of self. The reassurance that "you won't break me" emphasizes the essential role this person plays in providing emotional support and stability in the singer's life.
The chorus reinforces the significance of this person by comparing their presence to the vital elements that sustain the singer's existence: oxygen, transparent like ice, and sensitive fingertips. The lyrics convey the idea that the person addressed is not merely a companion but an intrinsic part of the singer's being, someone whose absence would leave a significant void.
The bridge of the song acknowledges that this level of dependence may sometimes unnerve the person being relied upon. It suggests that the singer's dependency may cause a feeling of imbalance or uncertainty. However, the closing lines assure the listener that despite these occasional misgivings, the singer's resiliency ensures their ability to navigate life's challenges and maintain stability. The final plea, "Don't you know? I need you here tomorrow," serves as a reminder of the indispensable value this person holds in the singer's life.
