Their influential sounds had been making people get up and dance since the early 1970's, and have been sampled by hip hop artists such as Nelly, Eric B. and Rakim and LL Cool J. He was popularly known in the DC Metro area as "the Godfather of Go-Go", and a hard working artist who layed the groundwork for the sub genre of funk that is known for non-stop marathon length live sets. Go-Go rose to it's greatest popularity in the early to mid 1980's, in part behind Brown's regional radio & club hits like "We Need Some Money" , "Bustin' Loose" , "Ashley's Roachclip", and "Back It On Up" .

Chuck Brown passed away in 2012, in Baltimore, MD.

What fun memories, of dancing and going to the discos, that what they were called back in the day. I am a baby boomer and this was real jamming music, so much fun and laughter. Everyone just had fun and loving each other. Growing up as teenager, house parties and going to the parks to see Chuck Brown & the Soul Searchers and other great musical artists was the highlight of the weekends in D.C.

This is the soundtrack of my early youth days as a teen. Having fun not in a rush to grow up. You just appreciated your place as a youth back in those days, especially when it was a little simpler, not perfect but simpler to live and enjoy with few worries. Old school music at it's best. RIP Chuck. I was the whitest go-go fan when my husband and I lived in DC. Never had the courage to go to a go-go club, because there were too many incidents of violent crime, so I made do with cassettes in my car's tape player. Love that funky sound, and Chuck Brown was the master.
