I Still Shut My Eyes
Citizen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Maybe I'm too quick to guess,
Throwing words again.
I keep cutting ties with my piece of mind
So I can get this out.

At times I count myself out,
Wait for days till I can be found.
At times I'm just down and out,
Wait for days till I can be found.
Once I'm alive again,

Once I'm alive I start to love again,
But I still shut my eyes.

Overall Meaning

The song "I Still Shut My Eyes" by Citizen is a poignant exploration of the conflicted emotions that linger within an individual after a turbulent time. The lyrics are contemplative and introspective, as the singer grapples with their own impulsive nature and their tendency to push people away. The opening lines capture this sense of uncertainty and hesitation, as the singer laments their quick temper and tendency to say things they don't mean. They recognize that cutting themselves off from others and shutting out their own thoughts only exacerbates their problems, but they struggle to break this pattern.

The following lines delve deeper into the singer's sense of isolation and desperation. They describe feeling lost and overwhelmed, and waiting for some sort of external validation or connection to pull them out of their despair. Even when they do finally emerge from this darkness and begin to feel alive again, they acknowledge that there is still a part of them that remains closed off and guarded. This closing line - "But I still shut my eyes" - captures the paradoxical nature of the singer's struggle. They want to be vulnerable and honest with others, but they are also scared of being hurt or rejected.

Overall, the lyrics of "I Still Shut My Eyes" are a moving and relatable expression of the complex emotions that underlie the human experience. They deal with themes of loneliness, regret, and the struggle for authenticity, and offer a nuanced and sensitive perspective on the universal experience of feeling lost and alone.

Same here. Titles are switched for some reason

Killtheklanman66

This is definitely "I still shut my eyes". This song and Right Through are mixed up on spotify still. I'm not sure how they even got those two mixed up. Drown is closer to this song than right through is.
