Stone
Clémentine Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Such a heavy mind you got there
I'm already high, but thank you
You've been watching me
From so far away
Punch my lip and I'll grant your wish
I guess we're not done being kids
I will stare into this phone until I turn to stone
Do you feel alone
I do
I do
Stalked from stalk to stalk from branches
Heard the words I talked behind backs
Do you wanna be
Petty just like me
I don't care but
Maybe a bad apology
Is enough to make up for what I did
You keep talking to yourself
In front of everyone else
'til they say
Are you okay
Punch my mouth and nothing comes out
What did you need
I needed help
Hate me three times more than you did
You can come get all of your shit
I will stare into this phone until I turn to stone
You are all alone
I am all alone
Do you even know

I do
I do

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Clementine's song "Stone" depict a complex and introspective exploration of emotions and the consequences of one's actions. The song begins by acknowledging the weight of someone's thoughts and the singer's own altered state of mind. The line "I'm already high, but thank you" suggests that the singer is already in a heightened emotional state, possibly due to substance use or personal circumstances. The next line, "You've been watching me from so far away," indicates that there's someone observing the singer from a distance, perhaps someone who has had a significant impact on their life.

The theme of immaturity is introduced with the line "I guess we're not done being kids," implying that the singer and this observer haven't fully matured or resolved their issues. The following line reveals the singer's tendency to isolate themselves, spending excessive time on their phone until they become emotionally detached or "turn to stone." The repetition of the phrase "Do you feel alone, I do" emphasizes the singer's loneliness and longing for understanding.

The second verse progresses with the idea of being observed and criticized, with the singer mentioning being talked about behind their back and the suggestion that the observer wants to join them in being petty. The singer acknowledges an apology given may not be sufficient to make up for their past actions, indicating a certain level of regret. The line "You keep talking to yourself in front of everyone else 'til they say, 'Are you okay?'" implies that the singer's behavior and self-talk have become concerning to others.

The bridge of the song highlights the desire for communication and the frustration when words fail to come out, indicating a need for help that wasn't effectively expressed. The line "Hate me three times more than you did, you can come get all of your shit" suggests that the relationship between the two individuals has deteriorated, with the singer accepting the consequences of their actions and the other person's potential resentment.

Overall, "Stone" by Clementine delves into themes of loneliness, introspection, personal growth, and the complexities of human relationships. It portrays the singer's struggles with their own mind and the consequences of their actions, while also hinting at unresolved issues with another person.
