Expecting
Clouds Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Put my arms around her waist
My hands can hardly touch
We'll be needing much more space
I feel his tiny feet now

I'm terrified of making
A single mistake
But I'm overcome with joy
This boy's from the love we make

I've been working overtime
At practising my part
Though I'm slightly past my prime
I don't feel old and grey now

I'm holding back any doubts
I have in my mind
'Cause I'm overcome with joy
This boy's from the love we make

I can hardly wait

Overall Meaning

to meet you
My son, my precious one
I can hardly wait
To hold you in my arms

In these lyrics, Clouds's song Expecting portrays the inner thoughts and emotions of a man as he awaits the arrival of his son. The first verse paints a picture of the man holding his wife, unable to fully embrace her due to the anticipation of their son's arrival. He's overwhelmed with the thought of their growing family and the need for more space.

The second verse delves into the man's anxiety and fear of making any mistakes when it comes to his son. He's trying his best to practice and prepare himself for fatherhood, even though he feels like he may be past his prime. Despite this fear, he's ultimately overcome with joy and excitement for the love he and his wife share which led to the creation of their child.

The chorus is a proclamation of this excitement and eagerness to meet his son, holding him close to his heart. It's a beautiful expression of the anticipation and love that comes with the birth of a child.

ok it’s driving me crazy bc i can’t think of it but i swear there’s a song that sounds just like this one- i’m sure they sampled from this song! i wish i could think of it 😪

@SmashedTomatoes

Half of the persona 4 soundtrack sounds like it between the similar synths, downtempo style and lyrical progression. But I doubt they sampled a 2010s game in the 90s!
