In the early 80's John Mayall heard Montoya playing guitar in a Los Angles bar. Soon after Mayall asked Montoya to join the newly reformed Bluesbreakers. He remained a member of the band for 10 years.

Too Much Water
Coco Montoya Lyrics

You know my daddy told me
An old saying, I never believed it was true
If you have a good woman, love a good woman
Don't let her take you for a fool
I found some ladies, I could drive crazy
But there was too much water under the bridge
I said there was too much water under the bridge
If there's too much water under the bridge
You'll first have to lower the mast
She said you're getting too bold
You just gotta be told, I take care of your home
Missing you while you're gone and you running
Like a dog a stray, you got to understand
What it takes to be a man
You're just a mannish boy at play
Boy you gotta learn even you can get burned
You just can't do me that way
Don't let there be too much wayer under the bridge
Yeah, [unverified] let there be too much water
Under the bridge, too much water, baby
With my usual ease I put her mind at ease
I went down to the nightclub to play
You know she caught me with a girl
Had her hand in my curls
And she caught me with my hand by her leg
Oh baby, please, I'll tell you honey, I can explain
She said there was too much water under the bridge
Yeah, [unverified] said there was too much water under the bridge
Said there was too much water under the bridge
There was too much water under the bridge
There was too much water under the bridge
The song "Too Much Water" by Coco Montoya revolves around themes of love, trust, and infidelity. The lyrics begin with the singer recalling advice his father gave him about the importance of cherishing a good woman and not taking her for granted. However, he admits to having pursued other women and believed his partner never found out. Nevertheless, he is confronted by her and is forced to recognize the consequences of his actions. She tells him that he needs to learn what it takes to be a man and not behave like a "mannish boy at play". Despite trying to explain himself and make excuses, the singer realizes that he must take responsibility for his behavior and not let too much water build up under the bridge between them.
The lyrics of "Too Much Water" suggest that the singer has made poor choices in his relationship and has been unfaithful to his partner. However, he also recognizes the value of his partner's love and commitment to him. The line, "You just gotta be told, I take care of your home, missing you while you're gone," suggests that his partner has been faithful and supportive of him, despite his behavior. The use of the metaphor of "too much water under the bridge" implies that there has been harm done and that it is his responsibility to rectify the situation before it is too late.
