True Faith
Code 64 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I feel so extraordinary
Something's got a hold on me
I get this feeling I'm in motion
A sudden sense of liberty

I don't care 'cause I'm not there
And I don't care if I'm here tomorrow
Again and again I've taken too much
Of the things that cost you too much

I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun

When I was a very small boy
Very small boys talked to me
Now that we've grown up together
They're afraid of what they see

That's the price that we all pay
Our valued destiny comes to nothing
I can't tell you where we're going
I guess there's just no way of knowing

I feel so extraordinary
Something's got a hold on me
I get this feeling I'm in motion
A sudden sense of liberty
The chances are we've gone too far
You took my time, and you took my money

Now, I fear you've left me standing
In a world that's so demanding

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Code 64's song "True Faith" talk about a person who is feeling euphoric and liberated, but also disconnected and distant from reality. The first verse describes the sensation of being swept away by a powerful force that puts the singer into motion and gives them a sense of freedom. However, the chorus introduces a hint of danger and instability as the singer acknowledges that they have been indulging in excess and taking risks that may cost them dearly.

The second verse introduces a note of nostalgia and regret as the singer reflects on their lost childhood and the fears that have replaced it. The morning sun is a metaphor for something that brings back memories of innocence and happiness but also exposes the harsh realities of adulthood. Throughout the song, there is a sense of longing for a simpler time when things were less complicated and confusing.

The final verse puts the spotlight on the singer's relationships with others and the price they pay for their choices. The small boys who used to talk to the singer are now afraid of what they see, suggesting that the singer's actions have led to negative consequences for themselves and others. The lines "Our valued destiny comes to nothing" and "I can't tell you where we're going" convey a sense of uncertainty and futility in the face of an unpredictable future.

Overall, the lyrics of "True Faith" capture the mixed emotions of someone who is caught between the excitement of living in the moment and the anxiety of not knowing what the future holds. The song's ambiguous ending leaves the listener wondering whether the singer will find a way to navigate the challenges they face or be left standing alone in a demanding world.

I love all songs by this artist. But the music industry dissing New Wave as they did back in the early '80s...until one record executive changed it later in the '80s. It's been happening again for the last 20 years. At least we got Depeche Mode and The Cure in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This shocked me...someone in Cleveland must like this genre. They are both so deserving like other artists in this genre, but I never thought it would actually happen. The Smiths, New Order, + Corporate Rock groups like Foreigner and Boston are still missing. The most complex parts about creating great music are writing good songs with meaning and melody, not playing the instruments and singing. (FYI, I always include synths, complex software, etc., in instruments..), These artist have it all +
