Try
Colbie Caillat Lyrics

Put your make-up on
Get your nails done
Curl your hair
Run the extra mile
Keep it slim so they like you, do they like you?

Get your sexy on
Don't be shy, girl
Take it off
This is what you want, to belong, so they like you
Do you like you?

You don't have to try so hard
You don't have to, give it all away
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don't have to change a single thing

You don't have to try, try, try, try
You don't have to try, try, try, try
You don't have to try, try, try, try
You don't have to try
You don't have to try

Mm-mm, mm-mm, mm

Get your shopping on, at the mall, max your credit cards
You don't have to choose, buy it all, so they like you
Do they like you?

Wait a second
Why, should you care, what they think of you?
When you're all alone, by yourself, do you like you?
Do you like you?

You don't have to try so hard
You don't have to, give it all away
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don't have to change a single thing

You don't have to try so hard
You don't have to bend until you break
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don't have to change a single thing

You don't have to try, try, try, try
You don't have to try, try, try, try
You don't have to try, try, try, try
You don't have to try

No, you don't have to try, try, try, try
You don't have to try, try, try, try
You don't have to try, try, try, try
You don't have to try
You don't have to try

Mm-mm, mm-mm, mm

You don't have to try so hard
You don't have to, give it all away
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don't have to change a single thing

You don't have to try, try, try, try
You don't have to try, try, try, try
You don't have to try
You don't have to try

Take your make-up off
Let your hair down
Take a breath
Look into the mirror, at yourself

Don't you like you?
'Cause I like you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Colbie Caillat’s song ‘Try’ talks about the societal pressure on women to conform to a particular look or behavior to gain acceptance from others. It highlights how women are expected to wear makeup, dress in fashionable clothes, and maintain a certain body shape to be liked by others. The song encourages women to embrace their natural selves and not be afraid to be different. It urges women not to care about what others think of them but to focus on their self-worth and self-love. The lines, “When you're all alone, by yourself, do you like you? Do you like you?” encourage women to introspect and question their motives for trying so hard to please others.

Through its lyrics, the song highlights the toxic nature of societal beauty standards that put undue pressure on women to conform to a particular look, weight, or behavior. It emphasizes the importance of self-acceptance and self-love, rather than seeking validation from others. The song encourages women to break free from the shackles of societal pressure and love themselves just as they are.

Overall, ‘Try’ is a powerful message that urges women to embrace their individuality, confidently own who they are, and not be afraid to stand out in a world that encourages them to blend in.

I heard this song for the first time tonight and it brought me to tears. I'm a father of a 12 year old boy that is going through a lot of "body" issues, for lack of a better word. This video/song is such an incredibly powerful voice to explain something I've been trying to convey for years.

U simply being there with him during that process and understanding everything or trying at least and support him its already enough, being a kid these days is a nightmare, its a crime how bad this world treats their kids, how hard their lives simply become soo hard in such a young age !!!
