Silhouettes
Colony House Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Are you half empty?
Why don't you fill up?
There's no sense in holding
Onto something broken
Did you lose something?
Or someone you love?
You've still got that story
Tell it every morning

Drivin' down a road, down a road that's stolen
All the lovely memories you heart's been holdin'
Nothing silhouettes 'til the lights come on
Nothing silhouettes 'til the lights come on
Drivin' down a road, down a road that's hidden
All the faithful memories, your faith for living
Nothing silhouettes 'til the lights come on
Nothing silhouettes 'til the lights come on
So come on

Nothin' is perfect
For that there's no cure
So don't you start to bury
The good with the bad and the ugly

Drivin' down a road, down a road that's stolen
All the lovely memories you heart's been holdin'
Nothing silhouettes 'til the lights come on
Nothing silhouettes 'til the lights come on
Drivin' down a road, down a road that's hidden
All the faithful memories, your faith for living
Nothing silhouettes 'til the lights come on
Nothing silhouettes 'til the lights come on
So come on

And I can feel your heartbeat slipping away
It's hard to catch the light
When you're running from the day
So wait for it, wait for it, wait

Drivin' down a road, down a road that's stolen
All the lovely memories you heart's been holdin'
Nothing silhouettes 'til the lights come on
Nothing silhouettes 'til the lights come on
Drivin' down a road, down a road that's hidden
All the faithful memories, your faith for living
Nothing silhouettes 'til the lights come on

Nothing silhouettes 'til the lights come on
So come on

Overall Meaning

In Colony House's song Silhouettes, the artist encourages the listener to let go of something that may be troubling them and to remember the good times they have had. The song starts with the artist asking if the listener feels unfulfilled and suggests they take action to fill up their life. He then goes on to ask if they have lost someone or something they love and encourages them to share their story each day. The lyrics suggest that even in tough times, it is important to remember the happy memories.

The chorus refers to driving down a road, which seems to symbolize moving forward in life. The artist emphasizes that memories and experiences do not take shape or become clear until one is open to experiencing the present, represented by the "lights coming on." He then reminds the listener that it is important to acknowledge both the good and the bad in life, and not to bury the good along with the bad and the ugly.

In the final verse, the artist speaks directly to the listener, urging them not to let their struggles consume them and to wait for the good things in life to come. The song ultimately emphasizes the importance of letting go, focusing on positive memories, and being present in the moment.

There's no sense in holding onto something broken,

Did you lose something?

You've still got that story tell it every morning,

Driving down a road, down a road that's rolling
All the lovely memories you hearts been holding
Nothing silhouettes till the lights come on,

Driving down a road, a road that's hidden,
All your faithful memories, your faith for living

God can't you see, can't you see?
Your children at your feet.
God, can't you hear, can't you hear?
Our cries for you to come.

Silent you seem, while we wait
in the darkness of our past,
but silent your not, find our heart,
find us comfort, find us fast

We will wait, We will wait God
We will wait, We will wait God
We wait...

And with this weight on our chest
we gather up the breath to sing this song,
but as one we confess
we do no have the strenth to carry on

So wait, though we wait, we rejoice
in the suffering we all share;
For these stones are thrown upon us
cause they're stones our Father promised we would bear
mmmmmmmmmm

We will wait, when the fires burning bright
We will wait, when it withers in the night
We will wait, when we rise and when we fall
We will wait, God.

We will wait, through every season of the soul
We will wait, on mountain tops and valleys low
We will wait, for you to come restore the old
We will wait, God

Come let your light shine down

Come Abba father, come let your light shine down
We sing,
Come Abba father, come let your light shine down
We sing,
Come Abba father, come let your light shind down
We sing,
Come Abba father, come let your light shind down

We will wait, when our fires burning bright
We will wait, when it withers in the night
We will wait, when we rise and when we fall
We will wait, God.

We will wait, through every season of the soul
We will wait, on mountain tops and valleys low
We will wait,
We will wait, God

Come Abba father, come let your light shine down
We sing,
Come Abba father, come let your light shine down :/

It's actually kind of funny how I discovered Colony House. I was at my root canal appointment, (which I was not looking forward to at all!) and the nurse lady, or assistant asked if I wanted a magazine, and of course I said yes. So as I was flipping through the pages, and I seen the heading "Awesome band, with awesome tunes!" so I was like "oh okay, i'll look into them when I get home". So I did and now i'm forever thankful for that root canal appointment. I have a tooth that no longer hurts AND I have a new favorite band. My fave's by them is "Silhouettes"and "Keep on Keeping on".

@toutoulove8

Lol, same here I found out about them in a magazine in September, they're one of the most underrated bands. They deserve better

@HeintjeMendoza

This song will forever feel like;
Running down my street barefoot
Driving into the sunset on the highway with the windows down
Singing as loud as I can in the shower
Hugging people I love
Thinking of all the memories the good and the bad
Learning and loving every day I wake up and every night I close my eyes to go to sleep

@korneliamckenziemusic1126

So ridiculously underrated!

@hannahl3456

sad but true

@stealy3992

NelliBean but aren't most indie bands underrated?
