Colours Run are a Manchester band, and all hail from the area (except for Tim, who comes from Liverpool). They devote themselves to writing and playing music with genuine emotional depth and catchy hooks. "Could be, and should be, absolutely massive", say www.manchestermusic.co.uk with "the sort of tunes you could imagine filling stadiums".
They've recently recorded and self-produced an EP (The Sticks), which can be previewed at www.myspace.com/coloursrun, and have headlined many of Manchester's finest venues, including Night & Day and The Late Room. Colours Run are currently listening to a lot of Rufus Wainwright and Elbow. "Tim would very much like to meet Guy Garvey since he seems like a really sorted bloke who wears great scarves".

Tethers
Colours Run Lyrics

She is sad and she is fair
And I feel her filling up my future
We will try, try our best
Not to end up like the rest
If she cries, I will soothe her
But what's the use?
When my kids disown me
And when she has outgrown me
At last I'll see
There can be no victory
You and I forever
Tangled in our tethers
Pile on the years
She is hungry, she is fierce
And our love is the yoke around her shoulders
And this house that we found
Has become our battleground
As we dine on our scissors and stones
When our faith deserts us
And when our hope just hurts us
At last we'll see
There can be no victory
You and I forever tangled in our tethers
Choking on the end of the line
Won't anybody answer?
When your kids disown you
And when she has dethroned you
Then come with me
For a glass of sympathy
All of us together, tangled in our tethers
Crying, I still love her
Though I'm quite sick of her
And this is all I knew I'd ever get
From her
The song "Tethers" by Colours Run is a melancholic description of a relationship that is bound together by love but also by the burdens and struggles of life. The vocalist sings about a woman who is sad but beautiful, and who feels like she is a part of his future. They promise to try their best not to end up like other failed relationships, but deep down, the singer knows that it might be inevitable. He talks about the challenges that come with age, as they both pile on years and bear the weight of their love as a burden. The house they share, which should be a sanctuary, has become a battleground for them, and they are stuck together, choking on the end of the line.
The song is a poignant and reflective meditation on the complexities of love and the hardships that all relationships must face if they are to survive. The lyrics are full of vivid imagery, such as stars in her hair and dining on scissors and stones, that add to the song's overall sense of sadness and isolation. Ultimately, the singer knows that they will all end up tangled in their tethers, choking on the end of the line, unable to break free from the bonds that tie them together.

There are stars in her hair
She is beautiful and shining
She is sad and she is fair
She is unhappy but still attractive
And I feel her filling up my future
She is a big part of my plans
We will try, try our best
We will give it our all
Not to end up like the rest
To avoid making the same mistakes as others
If she cries, I will soothe her
I will comfort her if she is upset
But what's the use?
Is it worth it?
When my kids disown me
When my children reject me
And when she has outgrown me
When she has moved past me
At last I'll see
I will finally understand
There can be no victory
There is no winning
You and I forever
We will always be together
Tangled in our tethers
Caught up in our struggles
Pile on the years
As time passes
She is hungry, she is fierce
She is ambitious and strong
And our love is the yoke around her shoulders
Our relationship can be a burden on her
And this house that we found
The home we share
Has become our battleground
It is where we fight
As we dine on our scissors and stones
As we suffer and struggle

When our optimism causes pain
Choking on the end of the line
Struggling to move forward
Won't anybody answer?
Does anyone have a solution?
Then come with me

For a glass of sympathy
For some empathy and understanding
All of us together, tangled in our tethers
We are all struggling together
Crying, I still love her
Even though we are struggling, I still love her
Though I'm quite sick of her
Even though I am frustrated with her
And this is all I knew I'd ever get
This is what I expected my life to be like
