San Diego, CA – August 3rd, 2005 – San Diego based hard rock band Colporter has continued to work with producer Steve Russell, who recently finished production on As I Lay Dying and Mortal Enemy, to complete a follow up EP to their first release Sovereign Mind. The EP is titled Despite the Battle and features a more progressive metal sound than their first LP that garnered the band much success in the past 24 months. The band plans to celebrate the release of the EP at the Roxy Theater in Hollywood, CA on the 23rd of this month.
Colporter has built upon a solid foundation of seven string guitar and five string bass, mystically paired with what a Colporter fan dubbed as “vocals that sound like Tori Amos’ evil twin”. Though a far stretch from pop to Colporter, the comparison to Amos stems from singer Sarah Paolini’s ability to wail into the rafters and reach audiences on an emotional level. Influences that can be heard in the music are Alice In Chains, Megadeth, Sevendust, and Godsmack. The band sees themselves as a perfect fit for the Ozzfest croud and are determined to see female artists making a seriously significant mark in the hard rock and metal genres in the very near future. “There is Evanascense and then there is Kittie…we are filling the void in between,’ says Sarah, also setting herself apart from the norm by dominating on the five-string bass. The other half of what creates such a signature sound with Colporter is the amazing guitar playing by David Paolini, recently endorsed by Randall Amplifiers, Basson Cabinets, Halo Guitars and Coffin Case and surely a future cover model for all the guitar magazines out there.

The galaxy spins like the ocean tide
The beauty of love without envy or strife
So the numbered the days of my life
days of my life
Someday we all will fly
Spinning round beyond the sky
Someday we all will fly
A spiritual womb of radiant sky
a span of diamonds touches my eyes
A wisdom unchanged through passing of time
so numbered days of my life
days of my life
Someday we all will fly
Spinning round beyond the sky
Someday we all will fly
Beyond the sky
Someday we all will fly
Spinning round beyond the sky
Someday we all will fly
Beyond the sky
(BRIDGE)
Someday we all will fly
Spinning round beyond the sky
Someday we all will fly
Beyond the sky
Someday we all will fly
Spinning round beyond the sky
Someday we all will fly
Beyond the sky
The lyrics of Colporter’s song “Galaxy” vividly describe the vast and magnificent beauty of the universe, in particular the galaxy, which spins like the ocean tide. The intricacy and wonder of the galaxy represent the depth and complexity of love that is free from envy and strife. The author of the lyrics marvels at the wonder of life, which is short and limited, yet still able to witness the magnanimity of creation, characterized by the distinctiveness diamonds which add to the visual splendor of the universe.
The song is presented in a way that interprets the universe as a spiritual womb, rich in radiance and wisdom that remains the same, regardless of the passage of time, and the lyrics remind the listener that even with our limited time and numbered days, we are still part of something greater than ourselves. The chorus sums up these ideas by expressing a hope of being able to fly beyond the sky, or to go beyond what is physically possible on this planet or within this life.
Overall, the song “Galaxy” is a reflective piece that is both awe-inspiring and humbling in its recognition of the vastness of the universe and our place within it. The lyrics speak of a longing for something that extends more deeply than the constant churning and change of this finite existence, and offers a hope that we will someday transcend our earthly limitations and “fly beyond the sky”.
