Getting the jump on a last betrayal
On the first day of a crime spree, Honey
Inspired by you
But I'm walking out
And all the goodbyes that you need are in my swagger
If you can still see through all the daggers
Watch me walk out
Go and get one last stab in the back
If you can still see in dagger vision
Turn off the lights tonight
The party's over
No one is to die for
Don't try for one more chance
'Cause I don’t really need one more reason
If you can still see through all the daggers
Watch me turn around
Watch me walk out
Go and get one last stab in the back
If you can still see through all the daggers
A puppet off his strings
My back is your scabbard
I'll run 'til I fall scratching and crawling
If you can still see through all the daggers
Watch me turn around
Watch me walk out
Go and get one last stab in the back
If you can still see in dagger vision
The song "Dagger Vision" by Communiqué seems to recount a situation where the singer was involved in some criminal activities that might have been inspired by someone, but then decided to walk out on it. The lyrics suggest a sense of betrayal that could have taken place within the scenario. The singer is depicted as tight-rope walking, trying to prevent a last betrayal while getting a jump on the situation. The chorus highlights the singer's determination to leave the situation and that they don't need any more reasons to leave. The use of "dagger vision" refers to the sense of betrayal that led to the singer's decision to leave. If the person can still see through all the "daggers," then they can watch as the singer turns around, walks out, and essentially ends the relationship.
The bridge in the song suggests that the singer might have been "a puppet off his strings," which could be a metaphor for having been controlled or manipulated by someone. The imagery in the verse, "my back is your scabbard / I'll run 'til I fall scratching and crawling," seems to suggest a sense of vulnerability in the singer. However, the chorus again emphasizes the strength and determination to leave and move on from this difficult situation.
