In February of 2003 their first EP, A Crescent Honeymoon, was released on Lookout! Records. Lookout! also released Poison Arrows, in June of 2004. Into the pouring rain
Never to be seen again
We're bruised and broken
I don't care
'Cause the tears that smear your makeup
Make you beautiful
Our bodies keep sweating
We've got the perfect weapon
Our bodies keep sweating
We've got the perfect weapon
We've got the perfect weapon
I shiver and shake like a rattle
More high strung than a gallows
And if I wake up tomorrow
There's no stopping me
Because there's a cure and it's more
And these cold sweats simply salt the earth
In a doctrinaire's dogmatic
Pitch black past
Our bodies keep sweating
We've got the perfect weapon
Our bodies keep sweating
We've got the perfect weapon
We've got the perfect weapon
Oh but it's not all just
Snake oil and smoke and mirrors
Cause I've Stalin'd your face
From the photographs
Our bodies keep sweating
We've got the perfect weapon
The lyrics to Communiqué's song Perfect Weapon are rich in metaphorical language that convey a sense of defiance and resilience in the face of adversity. The opening lines "Into the cold, into the pouring rain, never to be seen again, we're bruised and broken," suggest a journey into the unknown, a path that is hazardous and challenging where the outcome is uncertain. However, the following lines "I don't care 'cause the tears that smear your makeup make you beautiful to cupid's poison arrows," imply that the hardships faced along the way are a source of strength, a badge of honor that makes one more attractive in the eyes of adversity.
The chorus "Our bodies keep sweating, we've got the perfect weapon" is a rallying cry that encapsulates the resilient spirit of the song. It suggests that the trials and tribulations one faces along the way are not obstacles but keys to success. It is through struggle and hardship that one develops the fortitude and resilience needed to face whatever challenges come one's way. The lines "I shiver and shake like a rattle, more high strung than a gallows, and if I wake up tomorrow there's no stopping me," reinforce this theme of resilience and determination, suggesting that nothing will stand in the way of success.
