You Said That
Conflict Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Laws are made to be obeyed and that's the way the system stays
The country stands with troops at hand who provide protection for the state
At school you're taught to play the fool, the path is set, followed by all
Employment gained the nation?s safe, it?s all for one and none for all

It's time we dismissed all their lies that keep us in position
Their demanding obligations
Their deliberate segregation
Their world of degradation

The mass negotiations in their pointless pleas for sanctions
Class conditioning starts from very young
If you are rich or you are fortunate you get trained and treated better
And if you're not it?s just tough shit

The elite are brainwashed into believing that they are respected and highly valued
Rewarded with a higher salary bribed with that extra special interest
Destined to end up playing an important state role, or even protect and serve authority itself
Laws are made to be obeyed and that's the way the system stays

The country stands with troops at hand who provide protection for the state

Schools are used to preach the rule; the path is wrecked, destroyed for all
Employment gained? The country?s safe? Now one for all, and all for everyone

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Conflict's song They Said That… are a scathing critique of the established order of society. The song starts by pointing out how laws are meant to be obeyed, and the country's armed forces are there to protect the state. This is followed by a commentary on how the education system conditions people to follow predetermined paths and be "fools." The song then highlights the differences in treatment based on one's socioeconomic status and how those at the top are brainwashed into believing they are more valuable than others.

The second half of the song is a call to arms for the masses to reject the lies they have been told and start negotiating for change. There is a condemnation of the deliberate segregation perpetuated by those in power and their world of degradation. The song then questions the point of mass negotiations and sanctions when the root of the problem is the conditioning that starts from a young age, creating a society where the rich are treated better than the poor. The song concludes by asserting that if the majority of people stand together, they can overthrow the established order and create a society where everyone is treated equally.

Overall, They Said That… is a powerful indictment of the status quo and calls for a radical change in the way society is structured.

Hi Richard. I have a work situation you could probably do a video on. I recently quit my job of 5 years as I had a conflict with a new hire. Our management style are worlds apart and everyday it was total chaos, misunderstanding, conflict, arguments and stress. It was demoralising for my team as we’ve been together for 5 years and they’re used to working under my style for that long. It went on for 2 months. We had several meetups to resolve our differences but to no avail. So I resigned and let the other person take over. Now I am looking for jobs. Question: how do I explain to my new employers my reasons for leaving? And what if my new employers do a background check with my previous employers?

Olga Esmurria

I m waiting for this since is exactly what happened to me.
