" “I felt like I was being attacked by the band.”
Intellectual psychopaths, charitable degenerates, humble monsters.
Constance are a young, violent, and hungry metal band from Glasgow, Scotland.
Their music takes influence from punk, metal, hardcore, trance, and ambient, leaving venues trembling and audiences bleeding.
“If you climb that, I'm shutting the whole gig down.”
Constance play like every gig is their first and last, breaking hearts, minds, and bones. They don't have fans so much as their victims have Stockholm syndrome.
You might not like us, but come to a show and you will fucking remember us."
3. Constance was a Brisbane, Australia-based band that blended metal and rock sounds. Originally started in 2004 after the demise of former indie/rock project Where You Live, Dale J. Williams (vocals) and Sam Alcock (guitar) started work on a studio project with more metal influence than their previous bands, and Constance was born. Later on that year, this studio project became a full-fledged band with the addition of Rob Schlegel (bass) and Kristofer Maher (drums) - this version of the band played numerous shows across the Brisbane area before going on hiatus in November of 2005. They returned as a five-piece band in mid-2006, with Dale dropping his guitar duties, Rob switching from bass to guitar, and with the integration of a new rhythm section consisting of Leo Campbell (bass) and James Geekie (Drums) after the departure of Maher earlier in the year. This incarnation of the band never played any shows and it was around this time that Constance disbanded due to Williams' departure.
Former members of Constance are now active in these bands:
Dale: Vyrion
Sam: Defamer
Geeks: Defamer, Shellfin
Leo & Rob: A German Spectacle
Constance's songs usually range from six to ten minutes in length and are heavily influenced by artists such as Killswitch Engage, Opeth, Arch Enemy, The Juliana Theory and Foo Fighters.

Some Place
Constance Lyrics

People crossing sides and walking by, give me some place where i can go
A rainy mile, lovely ride, down the road
A place where i will never stand, let’s stay here for a while before we go
When i held you in my arms
I could already tell we would be betrayed
By the loss of our own blue skies
Could already tell we were drawn away
Rolling down, shifting sands
Tripping on a one way train, we’d sway and turn around
We need to leave a little space inside, giving way, to goodbyes
A place in which we’ll both walk out, like a call, in the night
Not a word, not a sound, pulled away
Wherever we are, wherever we stand, absence, on the way
When i held you in my arms
I could already tell we would be betrayed
By the loss of our own blue skies
Never watch the summer days
Could already tell we were drawn away
Rolling down, shifting sands
Tripping on a one way train, we’d sway and turn around
The lyrics of Constance's song "Some Place" represent a longing for a secluded place to escape the bustling, noisy city where the singer can be alone with someone. The opening lines of the song provide a sense of urban claustrophobia, with crowds of people constantly moving around the singer, leaving her feeling alone and isolated. The singer desires a "lovely ride" down the road to a "rainy mile" where she can be alone with her lover, where they can stand and talk without the distractions of the city.
However, the lyrics also have an underlying sense of melancholy and foreboding. The singer already knows that they will be betrayed and that they will lose their "own blue skies" and "summer days." The lyrics suggest that the relationship is not meant to last, and they will eventually be pulled away from each other. The repeated verse about knowing they will be betrayed creates a sense of inevitability and loss, adding depth to the singer's desire for a place where she can escape from the harsh reality.
The song's chorus emphasizes the need for space and leaving room for goodbyes, as the singer and her lover pull away from each other. The final lines of the song, "tripping on a one-way train, we'd sway and turn around" suggest that their journey together will end, and they will be left alone to wander.
