Bad Reputation
Cronos Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You got a bad reputation, that's the word out on the town
It gives a certain fascination, and it can only bring you down
Turn yourself around, turn yourself around
Turn it upside down, turn yourself around
You played too hard, and too much rough stuff
Your too sly, stone cold, that bad reputation
Has made you old
The lyrics in Cronos's song Bad Reputation are about a person who has a negative reputation in town, and the consequences that come with it. The first line already sets the tone by stating, "You got a bad reputation, that's the word out on the town." The subject of the song is aware that they have a reputation that's not positive, and that others talk about them behind their back. However, the attention that comes with this reputation can be appealing, creating a certain fascination with the person.
Despite the appeal, the song warns that this negative reputation will only bring you down. The lyrics suggest that the person needs to turn themselves around. "Turn yourself around, turn yourself around, turn it upside down, turn yourself around." The repetition of these phrases emphasizes the need to change and move away from the negative influences that may have contributed to the reputation.
Further, the song suggests that the person's bad reputation is a result of their own actions. They had bad breaks, played too hard, and were too sly, all contributing to the stone-cold and old reputation they carry. Overall, Cronos's Bad Reputation serves as a warning about the dangers of a negative reputation and the need to change for the better to avoid the consequences.
