It began in 2001 as the project for Dan Whitford. In 2003, Whitford recruited a band, and in 2005 toured internationally for the first time, visiting London, New York and Los Angeles. They have played with international acts Franz Ferdinand, TV on the Radio, Pretty Girls Make Graves and Junior Senior, amongst others. Cut Copy is signed to the record label Modular in Sydney.
In 2004, Cut Copy released their debut album Bright Like Neon Love. The music is written and produced by frontman Dan Whitford, who is also a graphic designer and DJ. Cut Copy released three singles from this album: "Saturdays," "Future," and "Going Nowhere."
They also released a Fabriclive album featuring a mix of several synth/retro/elektropop songs such as (for example) MSTRKRFT and New Young Pony Club.
Their second album, In Ghost Colours, was released in 2008. Four singles were issued: "So Haunted," "Hearts on Fire," "Lights and Music," and "Far Away."
In 2011, Cut Copy released their third album, Zonoscope, which included the singles "Where I'm Going," "Take Me Over," and "Need You Now." Zonoscope marked the addition of bassist and synthesist Ben Browning to the Cut Copy lineup, making the group a four-piece. Browning had previously supported the band as a touring musician throughout the In Ghost Colours Tour.

Unforgettable Season
Cut Copy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Talking on the phone
Just walk away
And cry
Cause so long
The holidays we spent will fade
Now that I've been gone
That we met
You're still at home
Listen to the voice that says alright
This is start and not the end tonight
You said that ?
Reach across the sky
? the windows
We stay
But not at home
Times like this you wonder why
It's even worth your while
Just count the silence
These days
Until you smile
Listen to the voice that says alright
This is start and not the end tonight
Listen to the voice that says alright
This is start and not the end tonight
The lyrics to Cut Copy's song "Unforgettable Season" are all about a painful breakup, and the lasting impact that it has on both parties. The opening lines set the scene, with the singer recalling a conversation they had with their ex-partner over the phone. Despite their efforts to convince the other person to stay, they ultimately decide to "just walk away" and "cry" because "so long" has been said. The rest of the song oscillates between memories and regrets, with the singer reflecting on the "holidays we spent" and the fact that they have faded since the breakup. However, they also urge their ex to "remember" how they met, highlighting the importance of the past in shaping their future.
The second half of the song takes a slightly more optimistic tone, with the singer urging themselves (and their ex) to "listen to the voice that says alright." Although their relationship has ended, there is a sense that this doesn't have to be the end of everything - instead, it can be the start of something new. The lyrics describe reaching "across the sky," leaving the confines of "home" behind, and "count[ing] the silence" until it becomes something more. In this way, "Unforgettable Season" becomes a powerful anthem for anyone going through a tough breakup, inviting them to embrace change and transform their pain into something new.
