Does the mold from the apple kill the Beatles or worms ?

Mold of nearly any kind can have harmful effects on the Worms. Even worse, if fed to your pets, there is a possibility of causing them to become sick by ingesting a critter full of mold.

All in all, mold should be avoided at all costs. If you want to feed apples, I suggest thin slices spread out so there is more apple flesh available across a wider section of the bin.

My beetles just emerged yesterday and are already dying and I just don't understand.

It is pretty uncommon for it to happen. I'm not sure what causes it. The first time I tried this, before making this channel, I had 6 out of 10 die during pupation, and the other 4 died shortly after, within days. My theory is its a lack of moisture. My success rate has improved drastically by making sure there was lots of fresh food for them to eat reguarly, and right before isolation. My srvival rate is above 95%.

I am not saying you did anything wrong, it could very well just been awful luck. Do not give up. I almost did when the very same thing happened to me. I was heartbroken.... i waited and checked on them every single day. I was so proud. And then I was crushed... I gave it another try, here i am. I'm nothing special, but I have had some success in breeding them. Try again, keep at it. You will get it to work and it will take off for you :).

I have a question why is one of my meal worms white cuz i have meal worms and superworms but a meal worm turned white

The mealworm had just molted, or shed, which leaves their new exoskeleton white and soft. As it hardens, they will darken in color. Superworms experience this too, less frequently.

Hi, do you have any idea why superworms are not moving as they arrive? I feed them carrot pumpkin and insect meal powder everyday. 3-4% worms will stop moving / eating everyday. However, I use the same way to feed mealworms and they are doing very well.

What do you mean they stop moving and eating? Are they dying? None of the foods you listed should harm them. What is insect meal powder?

@KC Exotics Yes they are dying. I would say all the superworm are not as healthy as they arrived. Some worms become inactive and eaten by the others. Those dying worms do flick the tail if I squeezed them but slow and no strength. For the insect meal powder, it's just my crickets diet (bean corn oat powder + some Calcium and multi-vitamins powder).

@K C hmm. I'm not sure. I've had it happen in the past when the temperature gets too low for them, they get slow moving and some die and get eaten by others. What are you keeping them at? If your temp is above 70f I'm not exactly sure what could be going on. do you have any tips for removing their odor? i wash my hands like 30 times and i can still smell it lool

Lots of soap. Tbh, its like a skunk. It will linger on your hands almost no matter how much you wash them, and I'm very funny about things being on my hands. It will fade away the same day, but as far as getting it off ya, I haven't found anything that works.

Hi, recently I acquired some zophobas larvae, after two weeks I noticed they weren't moving as the first day, then I saw many with holes in their body and other with part of the body flat, I am trying to start my colony and looking at this made me very sad I separated the ones moving more into a new and fresh environment, also previously I had also separated at least 40 larvae into plastic containers similar as the ones in your video, now I have two plastic boxes with the remaining larvae but I can't tell whether they are dead or just in transit to molt, is there a way to tell between live and dead ones if they are not moving, I am afraid to remove larvae which seems to be dead and later I saw them moving.

So you can tell if they are dead if yoy give them a little squeeze and they don't flick their tail. Another sign is generally them flattening out or getting very dark everywhere.

@El Hatillano Digital kale is a good option. They like apple slices/cores and as long as you have a lot of them. They will finish it before mold sets in.
