I like that she is being respected as an actual artist instead of some actress that decided to do music because she really is a lyrical genius and is very talented

That’s because she wasn’t a hugely established actress first. There are so many actresses who actually considered themselves singers first but made their name acting first. If you remember, when her first song came out “the girl from High school musical the musical the series” was an ongoing joke like “wth kind of show name is that”? And that’s because aside from tweens/teens who had Disney plus and also watched the show.
My point is- her big fame came from singing. So we’re viewing her most in depth as a singer.
If she had won an Oscar six months before this... we’d look at her as an “actress turned singer” no matter how many hits she had.
Like how people see Jennifer Hudson as a singer, not an actress, even though she has a Best Supporting Actress Oscar on her shelf. Because we knew her as a famous singer for like 5+ years before she got her big movie roll.
