Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Daft Punk's song "Superheroes" contain a repeating refrain of "something's in the air". The song has a very upbeat and energetic feel to it, with a driving beat and catchy hooks. The repeated refrain creates a sense of anticipation, as if something exciting is about to happen. The lyrics themselves are fairly simple and open to interpretation, but they seem to suggest the idea of some sort of change or transformation that is about to occur, represented by the mysterious "something" that is in the air.

One possible interpretation of the lyrics is that they are referring to a sense of collective excitement, as if a whole group of people or a community is experiencing something exhilarating together. The repetition of the phrase "something's in the air" creates a sense of unity and anticipation among the listeners, as if they are all in on some kind of secret. The upbeat and infectious nature of the song only serves to heighten this feeling of communal excitement, making the listener feel as though they are a part of something bigger than themselves.

Overall, the lyrics to "Superheroes" by Daft Punk are fairly open-ended and can be interpreted in a number of different ways. However, they share a common thread of anticipation and excitement, with the repeated refrain "something's in the air" serving to create a sense of collective anticipation and unity among the listeners.

Details that made this animation ahead of its time:
/
2:00 the slow pan as he slowly stands up, and the animated glimmer in his eyes really speaks for how seriously determined he is to rescue them
/
2:13 the bad guy's shocked face is dramatic but not overly so that it's taking away from the emotion showed to the viewer; that speaks for how desperate and frustrated this dude was that this bluboi was just instantly foiling his elaborate plan which he worked so hard on
/
2:20 the pause before Shep frees Stella going hand in hand with the music "stopping" for a moment, again Shep's eyes are caught intensively glimmering along with the closeups of Stella, it doesn't say/show anything explicitly obvious but his brief, proud smile of relief really shows how much he cares about her, only to be taken away with his shocked expression along with his finger taken off the trigger
/
2:40 Although not exactly clear what exactly the threat is, the bad guy's aiming some kind of weapon at them, and this prompts Shep immediately to take the crew and run despite the emphasis they just put on Shep/Stella, so it's cool to see how they conveyed in just body language and camera angles how desperately they needed to leave if he had to just leave someone as important as her
/
2:50 The view of Shep from a window as he meaningfully looks inside; it really looked like some kind of building or storage room to hide in, but as the camera slowly zoomed out it turned out that was a van, their perfect ESCAPE tool rather than hiding; it's a really cool subversion (at least for me since i legit thought it was a storage room with the boxes and initial view from the window)
/
3:12 Well now we know what those "gun laser" things do, the brief focus on the laser panning to see Octave's position between Shep and the laser; his facial expression of eyes widening and the glasses coming slightly off tell that he's VERY concerned and has to do something about this
/
3:17 The laser fires and Octave is shown trying to do something about it with what appears to be a seat cushion, but of course isn't enough since the laser went through and hit Shep who is visibly hurt by it, but these details stand out because, like many of the other moments, they happened in the course of 3 SECONDS
/
3:20 Shep's face isn't shown and he's slightly looking down most likely from the shock of the pain he felt from the laser, to which is then revealed entirely at 3:50 just how mortally wounded he is with his arm dangling lifelessly and the vivid expression of pain; BAM just like that, the scene ends and we the audience are left terrified at these loose ends (what happens to stella? shep? where are they going? etc) and therefore desperately are wanting to find out what happens
/
I think the character details has a lot to do with how the shadows were drawn on their faces in this era, I'm not very well versed in film, music, nor art but I'm just speaking off of why this video stood out so much to me since I just discovered it today and had no knowledge of Interstella 5555 prior to this video. If all these details could convey such emotions and context WITHOUT DIALOGUE and in a very quick 3 minute time frame, to someone like me who knew NOTHING of the story or song until i looked it up after the video was over, then THAT is the hallmark of a masterpiece. I've watched tons of shows animated/live over the years, not one has intrigued me as much as this video without the need of extra context/dialogue. Considering when this was made, I know for sure there were no other shows around at the time that had this level of visual storytelling on their belt (since ofc no show out there is purely without dialogue and needs dialogue to run as long as they do). It's simply amazing of all the ppl who wrote, produced, and directed the story/song in cohesion with one another.
