"Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" features a robotic vocal performance by Daft Punk. As documented in the Discovery liner notes, "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" contains a sample of "Cola Bottle Baby" by Edwin Birdsong.
A live version of "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" was recorded at Bercy in Paris from 14 June 2007. It was released as a digital download single on 15 October 2007, for the live album Alive 2007. The track contains a part of the "Television Rules the Nation / Crescendolls" segment of the Bercy performance that features elements of the songs "Around the World", "Steam Machine", "Television Rules the Nation". This version of the song won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording at the 51st Grammy Awards.
Kanye West's song "Stronger" from the album Graduation prominently features a sample of "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger". Two actors who wore the robotic Daft Punk costumes in the film Daft Punk's Electroma appear in the music video for "Stronger". It was later performed live at the 2008 Grammy Awards with Daft Punk in their trademark pyramid while West was on stage rapping. Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo clarified that "Stronger" was "not a collaboration in the studio, but the vibe of the music we do separately connected in what [West] did with the song." He later specified that the live version was "truly a collaboration from the start. We really did it all hand in hand."
Diplo released a remix of "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" titled "Work Is Never Over". It appeared in his compilation album Decent Work for Decent Pay.

The lyrics of Daft Punk's "Harder Better Faster Stronger" are about the elements of success in modern society, which is characterized by a relentless pursuit of efficiency and excellence. The song is a tribute to hard work and perseverance, urging listeners to push themselves harder, make themselves better, do things faster, and ultimately become stronger. The repeated phrases of "work it, make it, do it" emphasize the importance of taking action and putting in the work to achieve goals.
The song also suggests that success is a continuous process that never truly ends, as seen in the refrain of "more than ever, hour after, our work is never over." This can be interpreted as a commentary on the demanding nature of modern work culture, where people are expected to constantly improve and excel, with little time for rest or reflection.
Overall, "Harder Better Faster Stronger" is a motivational anthem that celebrates the virtues of hard work, ambition, and self-improvement, while also acknowledging the challenging and demanding nature of modern society.

Call me ridiculous... but I have to do this. Daft Punk got me through scrubbing toilets for a living man. There the only musical band I feel like that shook me down to my core and now that their broken up and done forever I feel like I need to break down their career and what it meant to me.
It was 1996 and I was 6 years old and my dad was cutting my hair in the basement to save on money and he put on a stereo with some music to make it feel like a real barber shop. That’s when I first heard the song Mr. Roboto by Styx and I loved it. I knew at that moment there was something else out there besides rock and roll and pop music but it took me awhile to discover it in the meantime I said, “Play the robot song again daddy.”
I’ve kinda never been a fan of music until I roomed with a music major who became my best friend in college Nick Burgher. He introduced me to several bands including Daft Punk. I remember Nick playing “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” in the car and saying “THEY RIPPED OFF KANYE WEST!” Kanye West’s song “Stronger” went viral just a few years before and it hit me just about as hard as Styx’s “Mr. Roboto” That’s when Nick said, “No this came out before then, and they actually made the beat for Kanye West” My mind was blown. As I listened to more of their tracks I found out it was everything I ever liked about music minus everything I didn’t like and I started digging through their music and it reached my heavy nerdy soul.
Homework their first album is probably my favorite album of theirs. Most people I play it to insult it for being too techno and having that annoying repetitive beat. For me I compare it to the video game Earthbound. Both are heavily unique, very emotional pieces of art, both not truly appreciated until long after their release, and both very distinctively 90’s. In the song “Rollin’ and Scratchin’” the guy actually yanks on a cord attached to the turn table needle to create one of the most unique sounds you’ve ever heard. Go find the live video on YouTube it’s crazy.
Discovery is their Golden album and what many consider their best album. This album is Daft Punk. They we’re perfectionists on it and it shows. For me the album doesn’t shine as much as Interstellar 5555 does. Daft Punk got all of the songs on the album animated by legendary Anime director Leiji Matsumoto to tell a complete story and they named the movie Interstellar 5555. Ironically you can watch this movie for free by just watching the music video for each track in order on YouTube. When I discovered Interstellar 5555 it changed me. It was a culmination of everything I loved and thought would be too nerdy or unpopular to ever be put together on as big of a scale it was. It also led me to discover Leiji’s other works Captain Harlock and Galaxy Express 999 which are amazing works if you can get over subtitles and 70’s cheese.
Human After All was a rushed album they made in two weeks because they had to. I find it ironic that the song “Technologic” has been sampled so heavily and is so recognizable considering how little effort they put into it. This album is more nostalgic to me because it was so heavily sampled in DJ Hero, the Hip Hop alternative to Guitar Hero. I played the snot out of DJ Hero and when I unlocked Daft Punk as playable characters I never played as anyone else.
When I was a young child my dad had manly movie nights when the girls wanted to get out. He would rent a movie from BlockBuster and we would watch it together in the basement. This was how I was exposed to Alien, Predator, Star Wars and so much more... but one movie was my favorite... Tron. The 1980’s Tron purely refined everything I wanted to see in a movie. Retro cool computer graphics, a plot about video games, and an underlying Christian moral about God’s relationship with man that hit me hard. Everyone I’ve recommended or watched this movie with has accurately described it as trash but to this day it is still my favorite movie.
In 2010 Disney announced a remake of Tron and who was doing the soundtrack??? That’s right DAFT PUNK! I was at my peak of discovering the band when this movie came out. I remember all of my college friends (Nick, Aaron, and Ryan) all going to see the movie at midnight. We all left early to try to hit up the retro arcade in Springfield, MO called 1984 as they had an original 1980’s Tron arcade machine there. They actually didn’t let us in as they were having a private screening of the movie but we could peer in and saw the line for the Tron arcade machine was a mile long. To this day I will unbiased give Tron Legacy an 8/10 but personally I have never enjoyed seeing a movie in theaters more in my life than seeing Tron Legacy at midnight. My second favorite movie going experience was seeing Tron Legacy with my dad on Christmas Day, despite his social anxiety, having one last manly movie night.
Most people will mark “Derezzed” as the one true Daft Punk song of the movie but personally I thought “The Son of Flynn” was more their style. I remember being shocked hearing “Recognizer” used in the Olympics opening ceremony. It was crazy that something so nerdy and unpopular would be so appropriate for the most popular sporting event of the year. Also check out “Arena” while you’re at it, such a classic banger that gets stuck in your head for background music.
Random Access Memories is probably their best album and my least favorite album. With their past albums they made electronic music a mainstream influence worldwide so they wanted to produce a real album in a studio with real instruments and bam album of the year! To this day “Get Lucky” featuring Pharrell Williams is recognized as Daft Punks most popular song. I dislike this song because it doesn’t feel like a Daft Punk song yet it’s what the band is recognized for. Yet... it is a genuine song you can tell Pharrell Williams wanted to sing and Daft Punk wanted to play. It also created one of the most unique and beautiful moments in my life. I was cleaning up from my friend Neal’s wedding in Atlanta when the song came on. I froze in my tracks hearing my favorite band playing. I saw a black man frozen by this music as well. We were both strangers to each other with completely different upbringings but in that moment we were connected together by the song. We both turned to each other and started singing, “Like the Legend of the Phoenix... all ends with beginnings...” and we sang the whole song together.
Daft Punk’s collabs with other artists are notable in my life. Kanye West’s “Stronger” made me fall in love with the band before I knew them. Also Kanye West’s “I am a god” is a song I hate lyrically with a passion but come back to time and time again for that heavy Daft Punk beat. Hearing “Starboy” sung by the Weekend at this year’s Superbowl with that Daft Punk beat still gives me chills that they have an influence today... Well I guess technically that wasn’t today. They don’t exist today.
**sigh
Daft Punk no longer exists. I’ll admit they’ve had a long career and stopped while they were on top. It’s just hard to see a band who I feel like represents the soul of who I am, who has constantly shaped and influenced culture with that soul no longer exist. I feel like a part of myself is now history. Daft Punk was, is, and will continue to be my favorite band.
