Darkthrone has been a duo of Fenriz and Nocturno Culto since guitarist Zephyrous left the band in 1993. They have sought to remain outside the music mainstream. From 2006, their music strayed from the traditional black metal style and incorporated more elements of traditional heavy metal, punk, and speed metal, while more recent albums have also included doom metal.

I Muffle Your Inner Choir
Darkthrone Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
Rehearsing twisted screams
Level the jesters dream
Numbening your live wire
Click your shit boots together
We are not in hell anymore
In the land of the blind
Stew hack disagree
Brew the divine sweat
Eat the forest alive (you) unman
Pollute the entrails
Click your shit boots together
We are not in hell anymore
In the land of the blind
The one eyed man is dead
The first verse of the song, "I muffle your inner choir, rehearsing twisted screams," suggests that the singer is trying to silence the internal voices or thoughts that are filled with anguish and turmoil. This could be interpreted as a desire to suppress or deny one's own pain. The line "level the jesters dream" can be seen as a reference to suppressing the illusions or false hopes that one might have. By doing so, the singer aims to numb or pacify their own emotional intensity, depicted as "numbening your live wire."
The second verse, "Click your shit boots together, we are not in hell anymore," suggests a shift in perspective or situation. It implies that the singer recognizes that they have moved away from a place of torment or suffering. It could be interpreted as a moment of realization, where they come to terms with the fact that they are no longer trapped in a hellish state of mind. The line "in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is dead" seems to convey the idea that in this new realm, where others are blind or unaware, those who possess even a limited vision or understanding are considered dead or irrelevant.
The third verse, "Stew hack disagree, brew the divine sweat," seems to encourage a disruptive attitude and rebellion against societal norms or traditional expectations. The singer implores listeners to "eat the forest alive," a metaphorical invitation to unleash one's primal instincts and consume the world without inhibitions. The term "unman" suggests an act of dehumanization, encouraging the destruction of human sensibilities or values. The line "pollute the entrails" further emphasizes a desire to corrupt or taint the very core of existence.
The repetition of the line "click your shit boots together, we are not in hell anymore" in the final verse reinforces the contrast between the previous state of suffering and the present moment of liberation. It serves as a reminder that the singer and others have transitioned into a different realm. The line "in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is dead" is repeated as well, emphasizing the idea that in this new world, those who possess even a slight advantage or insight are no longer relevant. The lyrics as a whole can be interpreted as a call to reject societal norms, embrace one's primal instincts, and revel in the freedom of a new, liberated existence.
