Love was a founding member of the Blossoms in 1957. They did several sessions and were resident singers on the television show Shindig. Love sang lead vocals on " He's a Rebel," which was credited to the Crystals, and "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah," which was issued as Bob B. Soxx and the Bluejeans. She cut six singles for Phil Spector's Phillies label, with " Wait Till My Bobby Gets Back Home" the most successful. Love became busy as an actress, but reunited with Spector for the 1977 single " Lord, If You're a Woman." Love appeared in all four Lethal Weapon films, and was also in the Royal Shakespeare Company's co-production of Stephen King's Carrie. Her 1990 LP, Paint Another Picture, failed to chart in America. Love later toured as a background vocalist with Cher. She appeared briefly on the soap opera Another World in 1993.

Love this rendition! She really makes it a completely different song than the Dixie Cups' terrific hit version. Although the Ronettes' recording is well known, did the actual (La La-fronted) Crystals also record this? Thanks

I’m pretty sure they didn’t record a studio version, I think by the time this song was around Phil had started to loose interest in the crystals. By 64 they had no more hits, and originally Da Doo Ron Ron was supposed to be for Darlene Love

Interesting variation, well done. This takes nothing away from the excellent Dixie Cups version. Darlene makes it and entirely different song, the same way the Butterflys "I Wonder" differs from the Ronettes and Crystals versions.

This version and the Ronettes was actually recorded before the Dixie cups. The Ronettes was released 1963, Dixie cups 1964 and Darlene loves was released in 1994 after winning the rights to the song.

I wish Phil had of put his efforts into promoting Darlene Love, she should have had He’s A Rebel and He’s Sure The Boy I Love under her name. Not to mention she could have had a hit with this song if he released it. Also, the Bob. B Sox songs should really be credited to Darlene Love as well. And Da Doo Ron Ron was originally for Darlene, but Phil again wanted to go with the crystals name, so the background vocals on that track are the blossoms, the original lead was re-recorded by La La Brooks, who did an amazing job

Phil Spector, who wrote the song with Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry , envisioned it as a Crystals single, so he produced a recording by Darlene Love and the Blossoms. He didn’t feel it came out right and it was not released.

He tried it again with the Ronettes. He didn’t like that version either, but it ended up on their LP.

Greenwich and Barry asked writer/producers Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller to help them record it with someone else. Stoller brought the Dixie Cups to Greenwich and Barry. They sang “Chapel of Love.” And that was it. The third version was the hit.

Hi again Darlene over dub her voice on most of her recordings with Phil Spector (he liked it that way so he didn't have to pay any one elsa) lol crafty bugger ,if you look up another recording "Strange Love" listen carefully and you can hear Darlene harmonising with her voice she is one amazing vocalist.

The best of all the recordings of this song,The Dixie Cups ,The Ronettes,Bette Midler.Elton John,Beach Boys etc etc etc recorded this song Darlene Love sings all the voices on this track which was called over dubbing..... for me it is an amazing recording, Miss Love you rock girl on this Fabulous,brilliant,wonderful performance.
