Daughter Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Oh, you're not a friend,
You're nothing.
I think I should be a little more confident.
In myself,
In my skin.
Take me, take me, home.
'Cause I don't stand a chance in these four walls.
And he don't recognize me anymore.
Burned out flames should never re-ignite.
But I thought you might
Take me, take me, home.
Take me, take me, home.
Now he's moving close,
My heart in my throat.
I won't say a word,
But I think he knows
That I've hardly slept,
Since the night he left.
His body always kept,
Mine inside of it.
Keep the nightmares out,
Give me mouth to mouth.
I can't live without ya,
Take me to your house.
Take me, take me, home.
Take me, take me, home. (Take, take, take, take)
Take me, take me, home. (Me, me, me, me)
Take me, take me, home. (Home, home, home)
But I thought you might
Take me, take me, home, home.
Take me, take me, home, home.
Home.
The song "Home" by Daughter portrays the emotions of an individual struggling with alcoholism and the aftermath of a failed relationship. The lyrics depict the singer under the influence of alcohol, causing accidents and feeling worthless. The repetition of the lines "Take me, take me, home" reflects the singer's yearning for a comforting and safe environment, a place where they can feel secure despite their current situation. Despite the character feeling unworthy and burnt out, they still believe there may be a chance to rekindle the previous relationship. As the song continues, the singer describes their desire to be with their ex-lover, despite the flaws in the relationship.
The lyrics also hint at the singer struggling with mental health issues, such as insomnia and nightmares. Through the words "Keep the nightmares out, give me mouth to mouth," it is suggested that the singer may have had suicidal thoughts, and the song ends with them calling out for a sense of "home," or acceptance and stability.
Overall, "Home" is a deeply personal and emotional depiction of an individual struggling with alcoholism, mental health, and the aftermath of a broken relationship. The repetition of the chorus reflects the singer's strong desire for a safe and comforting environment, a place where they can feel secure and at ease.
