As the video for "Numbers" unfolds, a seductive woman slips into a red dress and prowls the city streets at night, searching for a man she's seen in a photograph. Along the way she blows smoke dismissively into the face of a street preacher, tosses a pack of lit matches onto a begging homeless man, offers only a glance to a injured woman sobbing on a park bench, and just stares, unblinking at a man choking at a restaurant.
"I feel numb," Daughter frontwoman Elena Tonra sings. "I feel numb in this kingdom."
"'Numbers' was written in the spring of 2014 in London, based on a scribbled poem I had written at the end of summer in 2013," Tonra reports. "The song describes a lack of emotional connection towards other people — how it feels to not feel anything at all."

Make a worse situation
Follow me home, pretend you
Found somebody to mend you
I feel numb
I feel numb in this kingdom
I feel numb
Can you clean lace faces?
Black out nights and tight spaces?
We'll feel distant embraces
Scratching hands 'round my waist, yeah
I wish my mouth would still taste you
I feel numb
I feel numb in this kingdom
I feel numb
I feel numb in this kingdom
I feel numb
I feel numb in this kingdom
I feel numb
I feel numb in this kingdom
You better, you better, you better
You better make me
Me better, me better
You better make me better
You better, you better, you better
You better make me
Me better, me better
You better make me better
You better, you better, you better
You better make me
Me better, me better
You better make me better
You better, you better, you better
You better make me
Me better, me better
You better make me better
I feel numb, make me better
I feel numb in this kingdom
I feel numb, make me better
I feel numb in this kingdom
I feel numb in this kingdom
I feel numb in this kingdom
I feel numb in this kingdom
I feel numb in this kingdom
The lyrics to Daughter's song "Numbers" speak about feeling numb and disconnected from the world. The opening lines "Take the worst situations, make a worse situation, follow me home, pretend you found somebody to mend you" suggest that the singer is trying to distract themselves from the negative situations in their life by creating more problems. The use of the phrase "follow me home" implies that they are looking for someone to share their troubles with.
The chorus line "I feel numb in this kingdom" is repeated several times throughout the song, emphasizing the feeling of disconnection and a desire to escape. The second verse adds to this feeling, with lines like "black out nights and tight spaces, we'll feel distant embraces," painting a picture of suffocation and longing for something more.
The song's bridge asks someone to make the singer "better," suggesting that they need help to break free from their feelings of numbness and disconnection. The repetition of "you better make me better" further emphasizes this need for outside support.
Overall, the lyrics of "Numbers" paint a picture of someone who is struggling to feel connected to the world around them and is looking for a way to break free from their feelings of numbness.

+Leila A It makes you realize, that no matter how much fall the strength in you will endure all the pain, the death and the soul's torture and the hardships. Your heart is strong because it is still beating.
One of my favorite of Daughter, Youth:
"We are the wild youthChasing visions of our futures
One day we'll reveal the truth
That one will die before he gets there.
And if you're still bleeding, you're the lucky ones.
'Cause most of our feelings, they are dead and they are gone."
