Three Little Words
Dave Loggins Lyrics

My woman don't keep me standing in the door
She don't ask me when I'm coming home
Just lets me know she'll be there waiting for me
And she's satisfied 'cause each time I leave her, I give her
What she wants to hear
When I whisper in her ear
Three little words
(I love you)
Oh, that's all she ever listens for
(It's the sweetest sound she's ever heard)
She loves those three little words
(I love you)
Uh-huh, they just mean everything to her
(And I mean each and every word)
Yes, I mean each and every word
Like anyone else, we have our problems
Oh, sometimes we carry things just a little too far
But I know just what it takes to solve 'em, mmm-hmm
And it comes from deep inside my heart
And she's satisfied 'cause each time I hurt her, I tell her
What she wants to hear
When I whisper in her ear
Three little words
(I love you)
Oh, that's all she ever listens for
(It's the sweetest sound she's ever heard)
She loves those three little words
(I love you)
Mmm-hmm, they just mean everything to her
(And I mean each and every word)
Yes, I mean each and every word
And she's satisfied 'cause each time I hurt her, I tell her
What she wants to hear
I'm gonna say it one time, loud and clear
Three little words
(I love you)
Oh, that's all she ever listens for
(It's the sweetest sound she's ever heard)
She loves those three little words
(I love you)
Mmm-hmm, they just mean everything to her
(And I mean each and every word)
Oh, I mean each and every word
Each and every one of those
Three little words
(I love you)
She loves those three little words
(I love you)
Now when I leave her in the morning, I tell her
(I love you)
'Cause I know all she ever listens for
(I love you)
Yes, I know all she ever wants to hear me say
The lyrics to Dave Loggins's song "Three Little Words" explore the importance of expressing love and affection in a relationship. The song tells the story of a man who leaves his woman every morning but makes sure to tell her "I love you" before he goes. He notes that these three little words mean everything to her and are the sweetest sound she's ever heard. Although they may have their problems, the man knows that expressing love and affection is the key to solving them.
The song emphasizes the power of communication in a relationship. By expressing his love, the man is able to reassure his partner that he cares for her and is committed to their relationship. The repetition of the phrase "I love you" throughout the song highlights its significance and underscores the importance of verbalizing affection.
The lyrics also suggest that expressing love and affection is a two-way street. The man notes that each time he leaves, he gives his partner what she wants to hear. However, he also implies that when he hurts her, he knows how to make it right by telling her what she wants to hear. In this way, the song suggests that effective communication and mutual expressions of love and affection are essential to a healthy relationship.
