omg... thank you colbert!

Back story....

I was horribly abused. My adoptive mother was always hounding me to smile on command and when i did, it looked dumb and the abuse would get worse while never being able allowed to show any expression at all when she was abusing me. I learned B*tch Face way to young for the worse reasons.

I am been like your friend here, practicing how to smile so i dont look fake or force. or stupid. I am trying to break out of my ptsd issues. and i get so tired of hearing people say "smile" and i think i am... and all i do is look scared. i didnt work this hard in over coming so much to still look like a deer in the head lights.

Thank you thank you for that tip <3 I needed that tip to help me improve.

A long time fan, and this is why,

me

I have absolutely fallen off my couch in a fit of laughter reading David’s books.

Me too. I used to read them at work in my office during lunch and people must have thought I was disturbed. Just uncontrollable laughing.

So true!!! Me too!

I want David to write a chapter about the time I was on a plane and had headphones in, and I was snort laughing so hard the person next to me called the flight attendant to see if I was okay. He’s brilliant.

@Dirty Lemon I think I made a spectacle of myself when I read Big Boy on the BART train during rush hour. I'd never heard of Sedaris and the book was a Christmas gift...

My great aunt got Alzheimer’s and forgot all of the things she had forbidden herself to do for her entire life for religious reasons, like dancing or wearing nail polish. She had a marvellous time in the nursing home!

I love hearing this!

Under similar circumstances, my mom did the same: inhibitions gone; began drinking wine (alcohol was verboten all her life) and flirting with the young men (when she was in her 90s).
