come as you are
Deaf Havana Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Come as you are, as you were
As I want you to be
As a friend, as a friend
As an old enemy

Take your time, hurry up
The choice is yours, don't be late
Take a rest as a friend
As an old

Memoria, memoria
Memoria, memoria

Come doused in mud, soaked in bleach
As I want you to be
As a trend, as a friend
As an old

Memoria, memoria
Memoria, memoria

And I swear that I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun

Memoria, memoria
Memoria, memoria

And I swear that I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun

Memoria, memoria

Overall Meaning

The song "Come as You Are" by Deaf Havana is a haunting and introspective ballad. The lyrics are written in the second person and are directed towards the listener. The song begins with the lines "Come as you are, as you were, as I want you to be." These lines suggest that the singer is asking the listener to be who they truly are, not who they think they should be or who others expect them to be. The repetition of the phrase "as you were" suggests that the singer is asking the listener to remember who they used to be.

The chorus of the song is a repetition of the word "memoria". This word means memory in both Spanish and Italian. The repetition of this word reinforces the idea that the song is asking the listener to remember who they truly are.

The second half of the song introduces the phrase "Come doused in mud, soaked in bleach, as I want you to be." These lines suggest that the singer wants the listener to be real, raw, and honest. There is a sense of acceptance and unconditional love in these lines.

The final lines of the song repeat the phrase "and I swear that I don't have a gun". This phrase could be interpreted as a metaphor for the singer's emotional state. The repetition of this phrase suggests that the singer is trying to convince the listener that they are not a threat.

Overall, "Come as You Are" is a powerful song about self-acceptance and love. The repetition of certain phrases and words reinforces the message that the song is trying to convey.

I've been a big fan of Nirvana for a long time, and when I heard this cover, I was very, very impressed at how well Deaf Havana pull this off. Sure, he doesn't have the gruffness of Kurt Cobain's voice, but he doesn't need it. The truth of the matter is they make it their own. Everything fits together well and you can tell they weren't going for a clone because of the small changes. Kudos, Deaf Havana!

When Deaf Havana covered this I don't think their aim was to be better than the original, they're just paying tribute and having some fun with a great song. People are so negative and closed minded these days, if a band do something exactly the same people say its too alike, if they make it their own people say its not grunge enough or sounds too different. How about we just appreciate an awesome tune being celebrated after 20 years.

no question at all that nirvana shaped rock/alternative music today, and deaf havana and all these bands are saying thank you for what they have done for music today. Krist, Dave & Kurt you beautiful people. peace, love, empathy.

Love the bands take on it.. Two minds about the vocalist but he or they ( sounds like 2 people to me) are pretty good still ;)
