And the trains are all here"
I think, I smell a change in seasons
I think the time for change is near
You say that we have no feelings
We feel like we are her for hire
You packed it up and then you left me
It seems your plan has back fired
Follow me in the soft parade
You don't have to learn today
And you're still lyin' there in your daze
Well, I'll ask the red lights, if you can stay
I see the red lights over Denton town
I see them flashin' all around
I hope we never lose this feelin'
I hope we're never comin' down
Follow me in the soft parade
You don't have to learn today
And you're still lyin' there in your daze
Well, I'll ask the red lights, if you can stay
Follow me in the soft parade
You don't have to learn today
And you're still lyin' there in your daze
Well, I'll ask the red lights, if you can stay
Follow me in the soft parade
You don't have to learn today
And you're still lyin' there in your daze
Well, I'll ask the red lights, if you can stay
"Red Light" by Deep Blue Something is a song about a relationship that has hit a rough patch. The singer describes a feeling of change in the air, like the onset of winter, and references the trains coming and going as a metaphor for the way relationships can ebb and flow. The lyrics suggest that there is a lack of communication and emotional connection between the two people, with the singer feeling like they are there for hire, implying that their partner is just using them for their own purposes.
The chorus of the song, with the repeated lines "Follow me in the soft parade, you don't have to learn today," suggests that the singer wants their partner to take a chance and try something new, to follow them on a journey of discovery. The reference to the "red lights" over Denton town implies that there is still hope for the relationship, that there is something worth sticking around for. The last line, "if you can stay," shows that the singer is offering their partner a choice - whether to stay and work on the relationship, or to leave and move on.
Overall, "Red Light" is a song of introspection and hope. It speaks to the universal experience of relationships and the challenges they can bring, but ultimately suggests that there is always a chance for redemption and growth.

There was conjecture that the band took so much time off between Home and Deep Blue Something in order to fight US centered copyright issues related to their initial album, 11th Song, which they believed to be of lower quality than their name deserved. The 7 year hiatus between albums is believed to be partially responsible for their failure to succeed in the US with their self-titled release.
The band returned in 2015 to release new music for the first time since 2001. This EP was titled Locust House.
John Kirtland is now running a successful independent record label called Kirtland Records. Based out of Dallas, Texas and Los Angeles, California, Kirtland's shrewd business dealings led to his ownership of the back-catalog of superstar band, Bush and royalty rights on the sales of certain albums by No Doubt. After selling off his rights to the No Doubt material, Bush remains on the Kirtland label along with successful indies like Bril and the Burden Brothers.
