The song "Tokyo" by Derek features Brazilian Portuguese lyrics and references to various drugs, luxury brands, and sex. The repeated chorus, "Minha mente vai daqui até Tokyo" translates to "My mind goes from here to Tokyo" and seems to represent the singer's perception of being high or dissociated from reality. The use of the word "Running" in the chorus adds to this interpretation, suggesting a sense of urgency or escape. The verse lyrics are filled with braggadocio and references to the drug lean, as well as designer brands like Armani and BMW. The rapper also boasts about sexual exploits and invites threesomes. The repeated phrase "Racks on me" emphasizes the singer's wealth and success.
The song is sonically distinct, with a combination of trap beats and Brazilian sounds, including the use of the cavaquinho, a small guitar-like instrument common in Brazilian samba and choro music. Additionally, the song is noteworthy for being a collaboration between São Paulo-based rapper Derek and the Recayd Mob collective, which includes several prominent figures in the Brazilian trap scene. The collaboration represents a fusion of different styles and languages within the broader genre of trap music.
