Lol, animation costs a lot. They would probably do some live action shit where the angels and demons are just normal people but with glowing eyes, and only take their forms in like season finales. It would involve more talking and drama than action every episode. It's cheaper to make something bad and profit off the interest it brings, than something really good that costs so much even if more people are fans.

Mephisto and Baal are the other two prime evils. Lilith is Mephisto's daughter and isn't a prime evil. She's not even one of the lesser evils that we see in D2 and D3

Actually, I believe that Imperius's name is based off of the Empyrean, the space outside the physical universe where God dwells according to Dante's Paradiso.

Angels are dicks (well, to humans) in Diablo. Tyrael is pretty much the sole exception and he has to become mortal to manage it.

Even the angels that aren't overtly dickish to humans still continuously choose never to actively help them, even though demons are constantly willing to actively hurt them, and they hate demons. If I remember right, quite a lot of the angels that are still in "good standing" and live up in heaven voted to exterminate the entire human race at one point, because they could potentially be evil, and a lot of them saw nothing wrong with what Malthael was doing in Reaper of Souls.

Imperius only wanted to stop Malthael in Reaper of Souls because he'd gone insane, not because he wanted to save humanity.

Then they pathologically ignore that they themselves can potentially become evil, even though it happens semi-regularly, and a few of them (like Imperius) are edge cases anyway.

But that is one of the things I like about Diablo lore. It makes some sense that they behave like robots programmed to be "good", because that is how a being without moral agency that's supposed to be "good" should act. They're what you'd get if you tried to get an AI to be moral but didn't give it any explicit instructions regarding how to treat humans.

You're partly right. Angels in Diablo are meant to embody harmony (they're born from the pure resonance of the Crystal Arch, and their Runic Weapon (if they have one) is harmonically tied to them.) Imperius killing Diablo was an act outside the Harmony that Angels embody. An action not condoned by Aurael or Tyrael (nor the Council at large)

We don't know what votes on the matter that Malthael or Itherael would cast, since the Council didn't vote. Though since killing Diablo is an unwise choice, Malthael would likely Vote to imprison. At worst a 3-2 decision in favor of Imprisionment. Imperius, acting alone, shattered the Unity of the Angeris Council, the point of Diablo's trap. (Not to kill the angels, but to break the harmony. The Evils often war with each other, while heaven stands united. Breaking that changes the flow of the war)

I worked at Blizzard from 1997 to 2015. I know for a fact Imperius was suppose to take the place of Malthael. The plot was that Adian's soul that was not corrupted by Diablo during the time he was his vessel was made into Imperius, with the idea of doing this coming from Tyrael. And the story would be the last pure nephalem(who you play as) would stop imperius plan of destroying Sanctuary as a means to an end to destroy Hell for eternity. Imperius would be motivated by revenge, as knowing what Diablo did to his family and kingdom, and it consumes him.


The ending was never finished, and instead they used Malthael in a similar plot.

I was honestly outraged at the time, had diablo 3 had been planned to be the last installation, and the fact that we could have chose to come full circle was scrapped

But with Diablo 4 announced, I'm actually certain the plot I explained for imperius will be the main story instead of just an act.

He hates them, for sure, but it's worth remembering that there are 2 other (excluding Tyrael) on the Angiris consul who would very much take issue with an all out War on Humanity. Without his army, Imperious isn't much of a threat. Maybe he gets corrupted by something, idk. But with Diablo back in circulation after the events of RoS, he's the bigger villain for the next expansion.

Ethereal is the angel I'd be most concerned about were I a demon; don't get me wrong they're all fantastic but damn Ethereal is on a whole other level, I suspect he could overpower the demons in combat including Diablo single handed if he so chose. Not quite. Itherael knows all the actions that Angels AND Demons will take because of the Scroll of Fate, but that INCLUDES his own actions. He can't act outside the actions he's read in the scroll, so he spends a lot of time doing very little (since he's Fated to do very little).

Infact, Diablo's ultimate victory when he gains all the powers of the other Prime and Lesser Evils and storms heaven alone is written in the scroll. And this nearly comes to pass in Diablo 3. Except for a conspicuous absence in the scroll. Humanity.

Humans have TRUE free will in the Diabloverse, they can CHOOSE their actions, and aren't fated to take specific ones, something Angels AND Demons lack the capacity for. (This is what drives Malthael insane as well, that the capacity to choose between Good and Evil is "wasted" on beings who live for only a short time, rather than the immortal Angels and Demons)

lordaizen66 The reason the Nephalem are so powerful and so deadly, is because they have Free Will and are not controlled by fate. In other words Imperius's essence is that of a glorious bastard who will never give the demons quarter. Thus did he kill Diablo and continued the cycle of eternal war. This is why sanctuary was created, by demons and angels tired of the eternal war. This is also a big plot element in diablo 3. but that is all I'll say

They have been killed it's just the crystal arch always resurrects the angel and the evils only fight outside of the hella so they don't permanently die so that's why they have been going on for so long

Imperious and maltheal (however u spell it) are my favorite arc angels. They got the best designs.

Also this design of Diablo is my favorite. Same design from D2. His design in D3 he was too skinny and looked like a mix between a female and the queen xenomorph.

Cool, the imagery kind of reminds me of the tapestry in the opening narration to this animated supernatural action series from years before called Angel Wars: Guardian Force. If I remember correctly, the opening narration went something like this.
“In the beginning... there was one... a great Maker King who called forth all that was. The first of The Maker King’s creations was the glorious race of Angels, with none so bright as The Day Star... but... the crown jewel of The Maker King’s creation... was Earth, where lived a race of human beings so loved by The King that it enraged The Day Star. Drawing to his side a legion of fallen angels, the treasonous rebel betrayed his former master and fought to overthrow The Kingdom of Heaven. His rebellion squashed by the righteous guardians, the cowardly rebel fled to Earth where he finally found his opportunity for revenge. Epic video always loved the Diablo games some of my favorite story and cool adventure fantasy story liked Diablo way more in this and Diablo 2 when he was a massive savage devil monster unlike his thinner form in Diablo 3 and all the arc angels look so epic liked him Imperius looked one of the most but he was to head strong for character I like prob Tyrial like the most
