Angel
Diablo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I prepare for war inside my head
I close my eyes and reach the point
Where everything is meaningless
You strike on my nerves
You have dragged me down

But now I'll do the same what you've been doing to me
Before you can say a word
I'm gonna get you, break you and throw you away

[pre:]
Can't you see your oncoming suffering?
Why can't you see the revelation?

The pressure of blood is singing in my ears
When I heard that you've been spreading lies around me

I strike with fear A cry of war

And I pull the strings that you hold before
I will pretend the shock wave of your life

[pre:]
Can't you see your oncoming suffering?
Why can't you see the revelation?

[chorus:]
Today you see the end of the line
'cause now my hatred is open wide
Then you will know who I am in this game
The Angel of Revenge

You're about to see what is like to be haunted and nailed down
My lust for war will lead us to this bitter state

Where pain is so real and paralyzing

The price we have to pay

But like a phoenix I rise
To tear your soul apart

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Diablo's song "Angel" depict a person who is mentally preparing for a war in their own mind. The individual reaches a point where everything feels meaningless and they begin to feel a significant amount of pressure. The song's opening lines suggest that the person is mentally preparing themselves to go up against someone who has been dragging them down.

The lyrics then go on to describe the potential fight, with the singer pledging to do the same thing to their opponent that has been done to them. The singer appears to be seeking revenge on someone who has wronged them. The words are intense and filled with passion, as the singer prepares to unleash their anger and break their enemy.

One of the main themes in the song is revenge, and the lyrics seem to suggest that the only way for the person to deal with their feelings of anger and frustration is to take revenge on the person who has wronged them. The lyrics are powerful and emotive, conveying the feeling of rage and the desire for retribution.

Angels are dicks (well, to humans) in Diablo. Tyrael is pretty much the sole exception and he has to become mortal to manage it.

Even the angels that aren't overtly dickish to humans still continuously choose never to actively help them, even though demons are constantly willing to actively hurt them, and they hate demons. If I remember right, quite a lot of the angels that are still in "good standing" and live up in heaven voted to exterminate the entire human race at one point, because they could potentially be evil, and a lot of them saw nothing wrong with what Malthael was doing in Reaper of Souls.

Imperius only wanted to stop Malthael in Reaper of Souls because he'd gone insane, not because he wanted to save humanity.

Then they pathologically ignore that they themselves can potentially become evil, even though it happens semi-regularly, and a few of them (like Imperius) are edge cases anyway.

But that is one of the things I like about Diablo lore. It makes some sense that they behave like robots programmed to be "good", because that is how a being without moral agency that's supposed to be "good" should act. They're what you'd get if you tried to get an AI to be moral but didn't give it any explicit instructions regarding how to treat humans.

Expertly stated by someone else on youtube:

Imperius never feared Diablo, he never feared his anger. Imperius is the Archangel of Valor, he has no self-doubt. In fact, he is very, very, very zealous. He is all for something or all against something. For Imperius, there is no middle-ground. You are either with him or you are not. That is why he acts so abrasively towards the Nephalem and even Tyrael.

They are in the middle. To Imperius, humans and the Nephalem are just demonspawn and Tyrael, once a good friend of Imperius' is working alongside them.

He hates demonspawn, obviously, because demons are the embodiment of evil.

Imperius deals in absolutes, nothing more, nothing less. Don't understand all the hate he gets. Oh well, whatevs, Archangel of Swagger isn't bothered by it.

I like how they just stood there when Imperius cut Diablo in half and the blood splattered all over them and they are just like "what the fuck Imperius".

@SMK451

It takes quite a lot of time to get that dank ass Demon blood out of their robes. What a dick move.

@judemathew5647

I know right.

@ivancolonna7520

Would you guys laugh if Tyrael bitch slapped Imperius and asked him "The fuck bro... we had him... and you killed him... the fuck?!"

Then the fight starts.

@HetaliaCalifornia
