Do it again
I may say no, no, no, no, no
But do it again
My lips just ache
To have you take the kiss
That's waiting for you
You know if you do
Come and get it
Oh, when no one is near
I may cry oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
But no one will hear
Mamma may scold me
'Cause she told me
It was naughty but then
Please, do it again
Please, do it again
Oh, no one is near
I may cry oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
But no one will hear
Mamma may scold me
'Cause she told me
It was naughty but then
Oh, do it again
Please, do it again
The lyrics “Do It Again” by Diana Krall showcase a sense of longing for a past lover by the singer, who is left with an insatiable desire to be with that person again. The song conveys the frustration and desperation of a lover who knows that their feelings may not be reciprocated, yet continues to yearn for their former partner’s attention. The phrase “I may say no, no, no, no, no, but do it again” emphasizes the singer's internal conflict, as part of them knows they should move on, but their emotions keep drawing them back.
The lyrics in the second verse suggest a feeling of shame or guilt, as the singer acknowledges that their actions might be seen as “naughty” by society’s standards. Having an internal conflict with one's emotions and struggling to resist temptation show the complexity of the human psyche, ultimately emphasizing the societal expectations versus individual desires.
Overall, Diana Krall’s “Do It Again” encapsulates the painful and confusing emotions that come with being in love and the intense desire to be with someone who may not feel the same way.
