But I know that just was a lie
I'm a little mixed up ,mixed up about you
I'm just a little mixed up and I don't know what to do
Yeah you said you love me gave me stars above
I've had your baby I had all your love
I'm a little mixed up ,mixed up about you
We used to walk and talk darling each other sing
But I know now you don't mean a thing
I'm a little mixed up ,mixed up about you
I'm just a little mixed up and I don't know what to do
I'm just a mixed up,mixed up,mixed up fool
Mixed up all 'cause of you
I'm a little mixed up ,mixed up about you
I'm just a little mixed up and I don't know what to do
Now you listen here baby what I have to say
If you don't want me I'll be on my way
I'm a little mixed up ,mixed up about you
I'm just a little mixed up and I don't know what to do
And now you listen here baby won't you come on home
I'm sitting here crying and I'm all alone
I'm a little mixed up ,mixed up about you
I'm just a little mixed up and I don't know what to do
The song "I'm A Little Mixed Up" by Diana Krall depicts the internal struggles of a woman who is uncertain about the intentions of her partner. She is confused because her partner had previously professed their love for her but has now disappeared without a word. The opening lines, "You said you love me never said goodbye, but I know that just was a lie," suggest that despite the partner's promises, they were insincere and never truly had any intentions to commit to a long-term relationship.
The singer is left feeling "mixed up" because she has already had a child with this partner, indicating that they had been together for some time. However, despite this, she is struggling to make sense of the situation and figure out where things went wrong. The repeated line, "I'm just a little mixed up, and I don't know what to do," highlights her confusion and vulnerability.
Through the lyrics, Diana Krall showcases the mixed emotions and feelings of betrayal that the singer is experiencing. The line "you don't mean a thing" indicates that the singer has come to the realization that their partner was not genuine in their love and commitment towards her. Furthermore, towards the end of the song, the singer gives an ultimatum to her partner, saying that if they don't want to be with her, she will leave. This line shows strength and independence, and it is clear that she won't allow anyone to mistreat her or take her for granted.
