Lonely Avenue
Diana Krall Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You know it's always dark and dreary since I broke off, baby, with
You!
[Chorus]
I live on a lonely avenue,
My little girl wouldn't say, "I do".
Well, I feel so sad and blue
I could cry, I could cry, I could cry,
I could die, I could die, I could die,
Because I live on a lonely avenue, lonely avenue.
(Now my) covers they feel like lead and my pillow it feels like
Stone,
Well, I've tossed and turned so ev'ry night,
I'm not used to being alone!
[Chorus]
Now I've been so sad and lonesome since you've left this town,
If I could beg or borrow the money, child, I would be a highway
Bound!
[Chorus]
The lyrics to Diana Krall's song Lonely Avenue delve into the feelings of deep despair and loneliness that comes from a broken relationship. The first verse paints a picture of a room that's devoid of sunshine and always dark and dreary, symbolizing the state of the singer's mind and heart since the breakup. The chorus emphasizes the sadness and misery that have become the singer's constant companions as a result of the failed relationship, with the repeated phrase "I could cry, I could die" bringing home the depth of the pain. The second verse highlights the physical effects of the heartbreak, with the singer unable to get comfortable in bed and used to having someone else there with them.
The final verse touches on the singer's desire to escape the loneliness and pain. They've been sad and lonesome since the other person left town, and if they could, they would be "highway bound" - leaving behind the memories and emotions that have been dragging them down. Overall, these lyrics are a powerful depiction of the all-consuming nature of heartbreak and the overwhelming sense of loneliness that can come from a failed relationship.

In the last couple of years I was always listening this song and wanted to make a comment, but I simply couldn‘t find words to describe this unbelievable performance, but I think the word „Terrific“ suits well! Chapeau!

I think Diana Krall is talented enough, she could do about anything she wants involving the alto register and an instrument with piano keys.
