Apollo-Gize
Digitalism Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Why should I worry about this story that has just begun?
It seems like I am sorry for a song that I have sung
My hat is kinda oversize 'cause I just have fun

No space is left for the rest of what is going on
It's such a situation where you're stuck in your own time
We call it obligation to admit that we are fine
Just tell your destination that you're gonna be delayed

You have to build your own excuse for what is being played

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Digitalism's song Apollo-Gize are introspective and contemplative, exploring the idea of personal responsibility and self-reflection. The first line, "Why should I worry about this story that has just begun?" suggests a hesitation to take on the burden of what's to come, perhaps indicating a reluctance to take responsibility for one's actions. The following line, "It seems like I am sorry for a song that I have sung," can be read as a realization of past mistakes or missteps, an acknowledgement of one's own fallibility.

The next line, "My hat is kinda oversize 'cause I just have fun," implies that despite these realizations, the singer is still focused on enjoyment or whimsy, rather than dwelling on the past or the present. The lyrics then move on to describe a sense of being trapped or stuck in time, with "no space...for the rest of what is going on." The line "We call it obligation to admit that we are fine" perhaps speaks to the idea of societal pressures to present a polished, perfect image of oneself, even if that isn't entirely true.

The final two lines tie these ideas together, suggesting that in order to move forward or make progress, one has to take ownership of their own life and the choices they make. "Just tell your destination that you're gonna be delayed / You have to build your own excuse for what is being played" shifts the focus back to the singer, urging them to take control and make excuses if need be, in order to forge their own path.

Always thought this was one of the better attempts at recapturing Discovery-era Daft Punk. Still solid.

Omfg. First year of college, first time going on a real “school trip” and we were just getting back from the trip . There was loads of traffic, so it was super late when we got back, it was pitch black with the car lights and the city lights wizzing past us, and this song is playing for the first time on my shuffle mix. Just me, this song and the long long car trip ahead.

I listen to a lot of electro genre stuff, but this song just printed itself in my head because of that one memory.

Fuckin love this track, seriously. 11/10

I love the description of your moment. I can "imagine" and "feel" it. I was 16yo when i discovered this track, and i remember walking from high school to my house, only me and the road. Sometimes with the night falling early in winter. Love these nostalgic memories.
