We've been putting resilient channel on the ceilings.The trusses move and they contract in winter and lift up. It's good in basements too. It Smooths everything out 4 easy taping. If you want to get really fancy you could put L's in the upstairs ceiling corners for a deadly straight line. Fun watching you work doctor

What would you use where 1/2 inch ceiling drywall meets 5/8 inch ceiling drywall? Also, for soundproofing, does acoustical sealant around the ceiling and floor gaps make that much difference?

So if I'm doing sheet rock on a 40'x48' shop with vaulted ceilings and have a center wall height of over 18' at the peak, should I plan on doing several control joints to avoid cracking? Especially since the shop will be subject to temperature changes throughout the year?
