I’ve had ETD for the past 18 years of my life (since I was a kid) due to small eustachian tubes and so far have had 4 sets of tubes.
After having another really bad case of negative pressure & stuck fluid in my eardrum causing significant hearing loss, I was recommended this eustachian tube balloon dilation surgery (especially because constantly inserting tubes is not good as it stretches the eardrum). Along with the surgery, I was recommended to get septoplasty, turbinate reduction, & sinus balloon dilation to help with my allergies and sinuses. It’s been 2 years so far, and my eustachian tubes are still functioning amazingly (even as a surprise to my ENT on how well things have turned out). Haven’t had an ear infection or any negative pressure since. Anatomically I’ve come the furthest I can surgically, but now it’s just about maintaining everything by doing daily sinus rinses, nasal sprays, taking antihistamines, and starting allergy shots to address the root cause.

I had this operation 10 days ago. I feel 20-30 percent better now, my symptoms have decreased. My doctor said that full recovery will be evident within 2-3 months. I hope I can get rid of this nonsense completely.

Had this for 16yrs. It's not a complete blockage but just a narrowing. It means I get symptoms in certain scenarios: lying on my back or to my right I get the crackling+stuffyness when breathing or there is any sound , when I have a considerably louder sound on the left, e.g. using a phone, I get a crackling in the right in time with sound. One other one I don't see mentioned is balance issues. If I move my head suddenly just once, I get dizzy and if I go up in a lift when I step out I get a sudden sensation that the floor is coming up to meet me at my face. Not that I'm falling face first. I used to work in a hotel and ended up having to use the stairs most of the time as I'd end up motion sick or falling over if I used the lift too much.

Nothings worked, I've no allergies, and I've been told by GPs a stent is not worth the risk. The only thing that works, albeit very briefly, is manipulating my jaw to a certain position. Popping my ears just makes it feel I've inflated my ear and I have to wait for it to slowly deflate.

Angels World, might have to check for allergies, based on my experience. I went on immunotherapy for allergens before I went for my balloon dilation procedure. Also, what helped me was a constant usage of nasacort/flonase to get a topical steroid around the ET opening in the back of my throat and relieve in some measure.

@@markyurina717 Hi Mark, Yesterday, I was told by my neurotologist that the balloon therapy will help my ETD. I've had ear tubes and 5yrs ago had a cholesteatoma removed. Since then, constant dizziness and vertigo. I also have severe allergies. Six months ago diagnosed with PLF, common complication from the last surgery. I take a 4mg steroid when I have flare-ups, nasal spray/azelastine hci and 2mg diazepam everyday. I'm curious about the immunotherapy for allergens that you went on. I can pop my ears, in fact I do it very often now. My right ear has been muffled for at least 2 years now. The problem is, when I pop my ears, they open & for a brief moment I can hear clearly out of my right ear, but it immediately muffles again.

I had tubes in my ears as a child & unfortunately they removed my tonsils. I'm hoping to fix this not only to be able to finally hear again but because I believe it caused me to be dizzy, like vertigo, a few times.

Wow, I'm almost in the same situation as you. It's also my right ear for around that time. I can also pop my ears, but my right ear randomly gets blocked again. Sometimes I can hear clearly, and then all of a sudden I start hearing myself "from within". It's very unpleasant and can make me feel disconnected from my environment, stressed and dizzy.

I went to see an ear doctor, he said my right nasal septum is a bit tighter than the left one, which could be an explanation. He also said the right side of my palate isn't as strong as the left side. He suggester an exercise to strengthen the right side of the palate (swallowing with the tongue on the palate and mouth open, several times a day). But it didn't change much, and I don't really know what to do from there.

If anyone has any advice...

What am I suppose to do for quality of life if: I am taking allergy/ decongestant, steriod nasal spray, I have tubes in both ears and have had the ETBD procedure done. @@eleafins338 I've noticed rinsing my nose out with salt/Sodium bicarbonate solution (1 level teaspoon of each) diluted in 500ml of cooled boiled water eases the pressure & gives me the feeling that the Eustatian tube will eventually pop.... because if this I've just bought a Navage nasal machine to try & pop the tube before my next ENT appointment in May, its really frustrating, if thus helps I'll let you know

I got a fullness feeling in my left ear, have it easily a year now doesn’t bother me as such but my left ear resists popping. I’ve tried everything and do steaming on a regular basis but that’s only good at clearing my nose but hasn’t help unblock my ear. Been to the GP who gave me the standard ear clean out and he’s confirmed I’ve no hearing issues. Not totally sure what I should do now, I did have two cases of vertigo, one worse than the other which I assume are all related.

Back of my nose/back top portion of my throat feels clogged and its hard to swallow. Right ear is clogged and will not pop. My nasal passages are not producing mucus and i breath in cold dry air. Please, I need some form of help.
Had ear infection about 3 years back and since then, have been experiencing tinnitus which get worse when I stand up to do activities of daily living but lessen when lying down. I even hear my voices when I speak and happens mostly when I'm in an upright position. This feels so uncomfortable as my ear pops continuously, making me to feel deafness in that particular ear, which I also ensure I hold my nose closed, in order to blow air into my ear for a temporal relieve.
I'm down with depression and too many harmful thoughts.
Find it difficult to concentrate, and cannot study my books anymore as a student.
Have visited ENT doctors in my country. The only thing they do is to prescribe costly antidepressants. Pls I need help.

I had small Eustache tubes since I was a child (I am 28 now). I have a constantly a net pressure from the outside of my eardrum. It does not necessarily give me a hear loss, but it feel a little uncomfortable even if I am used to it. In fact, I don’t know what it feels like to have unclogged ET. Mine is also stopped up, for a month now.. Fluid is behind the eardrum also so I can't hear a thing other than a little ''crackling sounds ever so often but not much. for almost 5 weeks now.. ... so this leads me (obviously) to believe that the eustachian tube is blocked.. @@etdmike I will say, I have an option for steroid injection (into-behind) the ear-drum.. Since I went so long, total thanx to this BS Insurance I have, the steroid injection may not help as this began on July 25th.. It's the last option I have before settling on hearing aids.. I have had ETD since april it was inflamed before from a normal flu so my sinuses caused it. My doctor helped me to reduce inflammation but my inner ear hasn’t drained, can anyone help if there is a way ai have used that otrivent ballon and its useless, I can hear normally its just they are clogged. Eustachian tubes aren't meant to stay open. Just open when yawning. Chewing which keeps pressure equalized. This method is to open when all else fails. In theory it's like clearing a clogged pipe.

Just out of curiosity, what is the success rate on this procedure? Say, as opposed to an SE stent? I'm clearly not an ENT, I just have a background in emergency medicine, and am the poster child for chronic o media, with a side dish of a permanent, tympanic rupture.... accompanied by CVS due to a TBI.... Yestersay I had the dilatation in my both ears combined with miringotomy. The preassure is gone and also de cracking sound but the tinnitus still the same in both ears. I have now hearing loss in my left ear and I also can hear my own voice and breathing (autophony) in both ears. I hope is too early and these side effects can be resolved in the following weeks! If there is anyone else that has autophony after the dilatation let me know!

My is currently clogged and I don’t have an ear infection but it’s basically impossible to pop my left ear. I can barely hear anything out of it and I’m on Nasal spray and congestion medication to possibly break up the mucus I’ve been spiting out these past who days. Homer, yes homer it got a lot better! All though I am not back to 💯 % I can say I’m back to 97% because sometimes I still have some popping going on in there but it’s a whole lot better! And believe me Homer I was going through it really scared! I was trying everything to unclog it! When I 1st notice a difference was when I drank some alcohol 🍺, now I’m not sure it was just a coincidence but I notice a lil change, and also what I was doing A LOT of was putting a vibrating message tool on my pillow then I’d put a thin towel over it then I would put a sock of rice in the microwave and warming it up to where it was really warm then placing it on top of the towel and then laying my ear on top of it and at the same time! This helped me out a lot and Also the vibrator alone just working that all around my ear 👂 and placing it on my ear helped me break up the mucus that was inside. Try that for a while and I hope it helps you!

I thankfully don’t have hearing loss due to ETD but my ears pop every single time i swallow, yawn, blow my nose, for 8-10 years (it’s been so long I don’t even remember when it started.) i am so tired of living like this and during allergy season it gets louder, and instead of one pop each swallow it’ll be like 10 little ones in a row on both sides. Will this help it? I’ve gotten allergy shots for years to try and get it to stop and nothing, i took Flonase for it, nothing. I’m so tired of the constant popping and the occasional pain that comes with it. Would getting this done finally make it stop?

My left ear has been constantly clogged. I found out that moving my lower jaw around in the right spot while popping my ears can sometimes help, but it doesn't work all the time. Now I'm constantly moving my jaw around all day every day trying to get rid of that uncomfortable feeling.

I've also noticed that sometimes when I try to pop my ears, the pressure gets even worse, and I hear a squeaky noise when i do the popping

My sinus infection led to clogged ears. It is frustrating, but I’m told it should go away on its own. In the meantime, I’ve been getting relief from a neti pot, Sudafed and antibiotics. Popping the ear works a bit but hasn’t been fully recovered. Hold your nose shut and push the air pressure , hoping to clear a passage for some relief.

A good way to unclog your eustation tube from mucus is just by jumping up and down .. you will feel the mucus running down your throat . I did it and a big lugie came out of my tube i almost threw up , but managed to keep jumping to get that big sucker out.it was tiring but keep jumping and you will get it.and try not to swallow or you will close the tube.my inner was filled with mucus when i had a soar throat but i managed to get all of it out just by using gravity.try it!

@@Tempusverum u took a whole bottle of robitussin and it helped clear the mucus out? Im trying to get rid of the mucus in my ears now. The dr had me on 2 antibiotics in one for 10 days take my last pill tonight at 2am and 20 days of steroids to help with the eustachian tubes im also taking ibuprofen as well and doing hot steam. Few times a day and saline nose spray i hope something works.

@@friendlyfiresyeah I had the procedure in June 2020 and it certainly improved the blocked sensation and tinnitus I could also feel cool air in both ears for the first time in 3 years ... so from that perspective it was a success , however it only partially improved my hearing and I am currently talking to my consultant about having grommets fitted to drain the fluid sensation and improve my hearing... if I turned back the clock I would still have the procedure as it has definitely helped

Every time I wash my ear with soap or shampoo one of my ears gets clogged ! And the feeling goes on for at least two weeks, once I tried SERRAPEPTASE that is a weird
Pill that comes from the enzymes of silk worm that breaks the silk and frees the pupae or whatever that comes out of the silk bundle , it is supposed to be good for getting rid of scar tissues that our bodies create for many reasons and also it is supposed to be effective in vanishing Lipomas that are fat deposits under the skin or something
I tried it for destroying the fatty lump that bothers me but it worked vert little but I am going to buy it again to tackle my recurring ear clogging ! Hopefully it’ll work , in theory it should work for ear clogging, I’ll uptake if it works for my ears .

Allergies can cause this...sinusitis and all cold allergies it doesn't have to be an underlying cause

@@eunicenjeri8951 What are your credentials? Sinusitis and allergies are conditions, which means something is causing them to occur, come and go or persist. Identifying and eradicating the underlying cause is the permanent solution. Treating the conditions or symptoms will be a temporary band-aid.

One day i wake up that my middle ear canal is swollen then my hearing capacity decrease for both ears. The doctor prescribe an ear drop. After a week of using that, the swelling was gone. However, my hearing capacity didn’t go as normal. I am diagnosed with severe high frequency sensorineural hearing loss on right ear and moderately severe high frequency sensorineural hearing loss on left ear. Then my ears pop everytime I yawn or open my mouth wide and even while swallowing. Sometimes my hearing capacity backs on normal then suddenly goes back on the sensation of being clogged. So i don’t know if I am really having a severe high frequency sensorineural hearing loss. I am suffering this condition for 5 months. I am not losing any hope yet, since my hearing goes back to normal sometimes then suddenly being clogged again. Please help.

@@everettduncan7543 yes, I’ve recently had a flight. I’ve feel that something is popping in my ear (i don’t know if that is is my eustachian tube opening) during high altitude. Going back to ground, the feeling of much ear plugged due to high altitude has gone. But still there is popping sound on both ears, and still the feeling that my ear is plugged is there. My hearing capability is still lessen and not going back to normal.

@@someonelikeyou2278 I did, saw an ENT who said he can't do much, asked me to walk in a straight line and said I don't have balance issues... Hoping to see a real specialist this year, but the balloon dilation is the only thing I'm interested in.

My left ear is constantly feeling blocked. I also have tinnitus which seems to be more on the left side. It might even be exclusively on the left side, but Im not sure.

This is probably due to Eustatian Tube dysfunction , something that I have suffered with for past two years .
My consultant has now referred me to have a relatively new procedure and that is to have a ballon inserted into the Eustation Tube and expanded to open and stretch the tube itself before removing and leaving the Eustation tube open to allow the air to enter the inner ear
I will update anyone that may be interested in the results ( expected to have the procedure in next 6 weeks)

Hi sorry to hear that it was not successful, have you been offered further treatment for say sinuses as my consultant gave me a CT scan in the first instance to see if that was effecting the Eustation tube issues , mine came back clear so have gone with the procedure as recommended..... I will let you know once complete what the results will be , I am hopeful as this seems to be the last resort , I hope you find a resolve as this condition is awful and hard to live with
