1. Dio was an American heavy metal band formed in 1982 and led by vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Dio left Black Sabbath with intentions to form a new band with fellow former Black Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice. The name Dio was chosen because it made sense from a commercial standpoint, as the name was already well known at that time. The band released ten studio albums and had numerous lineup changes over the years, with Dio himself being the only constant member. Guitarists included Vivian Campbell, Craig Goldy, Doug Aldrich, Warren DeMartini, Tracy G, Jake E. Lee and Rowan Robertson. The band dissolved in 2010 when Ronnie James Dio died of stomach cancer at the age of 67. Dio has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide.

Dio Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I didn't just speak
I swear that everything you heard is true
do not wake me up
I know, it sucks to hear that
but everything is wrong now, why am I here?
in all colors, from black to blue, I shouldn't have called you
in all colors, from black to blue, I shouldn't have met you
but since we always go wrong, let's do it together
love me, and i love you
find a way not to make me blue
The lyrics of "I Am" by Dio portray a sense of confusion and regret. The opening lines "Where did you go? I didn't just speak" suggest that the singer may have said something to drive someone away, leaving them feeling abandoned and alone. The line "I swear that everything you heard is true" suggests that the singer is attempting to absolve themselves of any wrongdoing in the situation.
The lines "do not wake me up, I didn't just dream" suggest that the singer is struggling to come to terms with the reality of the situation they find themselves in. The following lines "I know, it sucks to hear that, but everything is wrong now, why am I here?" suggest that the singer is feeling lost and unsure of their place in the world.
The refrain of "in all colors, from black to blue, I shouldn't have called you, in all colors, from black to blue, I shouldn't have met you" implies that the singer is both blaming themselves for the situation and regretting their involvement with the other person.
Finally, the lines "but since we always go wrong, let's do it together, love me, and I love you, find a way not to make me blue" suggest a desire to work through the issues in the relationship and find a way to make things better.
Overall, the lyrics of "I Am" by Dio depict a complex and emotionally charged situation that leaves the singer feeling uncertain and vulnerable.

I love this album one reason being that it moves away from the mainstream commercial repetition. It was a one and done affair for me however because I really don't care for Angry Machines😎

Not a bad song at all, for one of my least favorite albums. Tracy G is a very good guitar player, but didn't belong in a band like Dio. One thing that hurt great metal bands in the 90's was... Grunge. Thank God the millennium came. I love Dio and always will. He was a huge influence on me. I've listened to Strange Highways and Angry Machines, (many times) but just don't like them as a whole...but there are, of course songs I like off of each albums. This being one of them.
