I
Dizzy Gillespie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I have heard all you've been saying
Yet I will love in my own way

Lonely as a desert breeze
I may wonder where I please
Yet I keep on longing
Just to rest a while
Where a sweetheart's tender eyes
Take the place of sand and skies
All the World forgotten
In one Woman's smile

One alone, to be my own
I alone, to know her caresses
One to be, eternally
The one my worshiping soul possesses

At her call, I'd give my all
All my life and all my love enduring
This would be a magic World to me
If she were mine alone

One alone, to be my own
I alone, to know her caresses

One to be, eternally
The one my worshiping soul possesses

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Dizzy Gillespie feat. Stan Getz's song One Alone are romantic and poetic, highlighting a love that is unique and individual. The singer acknowledges that they have heard the opinions of others, but ultimately they will love in their own way. Despite feeling lonely like a "desert breeze," the singer yearns for a deep connection with one person - a "sweetheart" who can make all of their cares disappear with a simple smile. This person would be the only one they need, with her tender caresses and love sustaining them for an eternity. The song speaks to the power of love and connection, and how it can make even the harshest landscapes seem like paradise.

Overall, the song is a testament to the beauty of love and the human desire for connection. It reminds us that even in the midst of loneliness and isolation, there is always hope for finding the one person who can make everything else fade away. Whether it's through a tender touch, a loving word, or a simple smile, the power of love can transform our lives and make the world feel magical.

😍Thelonious "Sphere" Monk💗,
😍John "Dizzy" Gillespie💖,
Maximilian "Max" Roach💟 (my mentor in the art of drumming who I saw twice with Odeon Pope and Cecil Bridgewater, despite...i do not know drumming but loves that instrument which naively should i confess i thought there was no need to know to read notes...what a mistake 🙃) ,
😍Kenny Clarke💕,
😍Bud Powell💌,
😍John Coltrane💞 (who I can endlessly watch him playing on "So What" where he is closing his eyes when taking his solo on this composition made and played by Miles Davis on a film with Jimmy Cobb on drums, Wynton Kelly on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and later with the Gil Evans orchestra...Wouah what a sound, a film which introduced by someone who named the "sound of Miles" which indeed is pure beauty),

I met Dizzy once at a conference and I said I loved his music. He responded, "at least someone does!" He was so kind and funny. May he play on always.

The man exudes class. 👌

Unrelated to anything (aside from famous trumpet players), as a teenager I was notified that I would be able to chit-chat with Chuck Mangione after a show. It was a spur-of-the-moment thing and I didn't exactly have any Chuck Mangione merch just sitting around, so I grabbed the CD booklet of "Kind of Blue" and set off for the concert.

When the moment arrived, I presented the booklet to Chuck Mangione to sign. He looked it over, looked at me, looked at the booklet again, paused and said: "Well, I don't suppose Miles'll mind." And he signed it.

Hey, at least SOMEONE likes it
If my music finds one person, and he likes it, I made good music.
