1984 proved their most succesful year, with a sell-out Twice Nightly tour, and their first Dutch chart-topping hit, Love Me Just A Little Bit More. A lot of merchandise was made, incl. the infamous Dolly Dots-dolls. In 1985, Anita left the band due to her pregnancy. In 1986 the Dots shot their Hollywood movie Dutch Treat, but it was not the smash hit they'd hoped for.
In 1987 the girls teamed up with producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman, in hope to crack the British charts. The song "What A Night" proved to be their last original single. The band split up in 1988. In 1993 a Disco remix of "Love Me Just A Little Bit More" was released to promote the Gold album, but the girls did not participate at all themselves. In 1998 all six girls gave a full concert again to promote their double CD The Collection and a R&B remix of What A Night.
In 2004 a musical featuring their best loved songs toured the Netherlands, but did not feature any of the members of the group. In 2007, the band reunited once more to perform during a concert series also featuring other Dutch bands. They also decided to give three (already) sold-out reunion concerts in May 2007. Angela, Ria and Anita were the only members of the band to release solo records, but none were as succesful as their joint efforts as the Dolly Dots. On July 20, 2009, Ria died of cancer. She was only 52 years old.
The Dolly Dots are still listed in the Dutch Guiness Book of Records as the longest running Dutch Girl Band.
Biggest hits: Love Me Just A Little Bit More, Radio, Do Wah Diddy Diddy, Hela-Di-ladi-Lo, PS, S.T.O.P., Don't Give Up, She's A Liar, Do You Wanna Wanna, Boys, Leila and All the Roses.
Loverboy
Dolly Dots Lyrics

He always makes me feel so lonely
Everytime he is away
But when he's around
I'm lost in his love and charm
Oehoe he's sexy
Everyone adores him
But when he sees any other girl
He should know how I feel
I don't like it (I don't like it)
Don't wanna be your toy
Loverboy
I don't like it (Oeh…)
'Cause I'm doing everything
To show you how I feel
If I would stay with my loverboy
I think that he would drive me crazy
Because he treats me like a phoney girl
And that isn't right
He should know how it feels inside
Oehoe he's sexy
Everyone adores him
But when he sees any other girl
His temper get high (high)
He should know how I feel
I don't like it (I don't like it)
Don't wanna be your toy
Loverboy
I don't like it (Oeh…)
'Cause I'm doing everything
To show you how I feel
I don't like it (I don't like it)
Don't wanna be your toy
Loverboy
I don't like it (Oeh…)
'Cause I'm doing everything
To show you how I feel
Oeh now baby - loverboy
Oeh now baby you know I need ya
Oeh now baby - loverboy
Oeh now baby and I won't cheat ya
Oeh now baby - loverboy
Oeh now baby you know I need ya
Oeh now baby - loverboy
My temper gets high
You should know how I feel - feel
I…… don't like it
To be your toy
I…… don't like it
That you're a loverboy
I don't like it (I don't like it)
Don't wanna be your toy
Loverboy
I don't like it (Oeh…)
'Cause I'm doing everything
To show you how I feel
The Dolly Dots' song "Loverboy" portrays the complicated emotions and thoughts of the singer regarding her loverboy. At first, she cannot help but admit that she is drawn to the sexy and charming qualities of her loverboy, but his absence tends to make her feel lonely. When he is around, she finds herself lost in his love and charm. However, she also cannot deny that he has a temper issue whenever he sees other girls. The singer is frustrated that the loverboy does not seem to comprehend her feelings, and she does not want to be just a toy to him. She fears that staying with him would eventually drive her crazy because he treats her like a phony girl.
The song also shows the singer's hopes that her loverboy could change for the better. She declares that she needs him and will not cheat on him. She wants her loverboy to understand how she feels inside and treats her with the respect that she deserves.
